Army’s Apache under assault: PC police call helicopter’s name racist

Veterans aren’t happy with a recent op-ed by the Washington Post, which charged that the Apache, Comanche, Chinook, Lakota, Cheyenne and Kiowa military vehicles were a “greater symbolic injustice” than the NFL’s Washington Redskins’ name.

“Even if the NFL and Redskins brass come to their senses and rename the team, a greater symbolic injustice would continue to afflict Indians — an injustice perpetuated not by a football club but by our federal government,” Simon Waxman of the Boston Review wrote for the Post on Thursday.

He added that the helicopter names were “propaganda” that needed to end, because Native American life expectancy statistics indicate the “violence is ongoing, even if the guns are silent.”

Readers at the popular military news gathering website Doctrine Man reacted Friday.

“I suspect that the author is less unhappy that our choppers have Indian names, and more unhappy that there is a U.S. military,” wrote Alex Kuhns.

Kevin Schooler wrote: “What floors me is that for the most part, it isn’t American Indians who are offended. It is guilt-ridden white liberals being offended on their behalf. How’s that for paternalism?”

Even the website’s moderator weighed in, saying that the names the military chooses for weapons platforms “are anything but derogatory, they convey strength, honor, and courage. @SimonWaxman is grossly uninformed.”

What it is going to come to is that any group of people is not going to be "named" as it will offend them in some way. Teams will just be called team 1, 2, 3, etc... F-N ridiculous. Washington Team #2 (i.e. the government).

I am offended by the name of sauerkraut. Being German and all. First I thought we should change the name to fermented cabbage. But then I realized that brewers of beer and hard liquor would be offended that food was being referred to as fermented. My next thought was changing the name to different cabbage but this would offend the GBTL community. I thought I had it figured out when I decided on cabbage number 2. Then a mathematician told me he was offended due to the random choice of the number 2.

People that feel so guilty about what happened hundreds of years ago can rectify their guilt very easily. Give everything you own to a native American, and move back to the country from whence you came, be that England, France, Germany, etc... and see how they'll accept you.

What's done is done. We didn't do it, and should feel ZERO remorse for something we didn't do.

I saw someone on a talk show last week expounding on reparations and how it would make White Americans feel better. Wrong on so many levels I do not know where to start. I think most White Americans would feel better if we gave out less free hand outs.
