It will be interesting if they do separate. It may cause significant issues for the EU and NATO.

If they do separate, Vladimir Putin already called dibs

(can't take credit, heard it on Jimmy Kimmel or something like that).

I think they realize they'll plummet into bankruptcy, and vote to stay. More interesting, if the vote included England, polls show they would overwhelmingly dump Scotland.

There was talk of a shared power/authority between the two, with one province wanting to secede from both.

I've been yawning for weeks. Hard to muster much outrage. For me, the most interesting aspect of the story has been that they are allowing 16 year olds to vote this issue. What???? And they think they are ready to be independent? Seems to be a gross display of poor judgement right there. I am not all that comfortable letting 18 year olds help decide our fate. I can rarely count on my 20+ year old to make good choices in rather simple scenarios. They're fd. But I don't much care at the moment.

If they do vote to secede, will David Cameron invade their country, declare total war, commit genocide on women, children & the elderly, kill all the livestock, destroy any means of producing food, poison their land and burn their cities?

Just curious . . .

Well, you'll always have vodka.
and gin.
and tequila.
and rum.
and bourbon.
and akvavit.
but mainly vodka, since it's ok to make it here.

I've only had each of those once.

The zima when I was young and stupid.

The amyl nitrate ... Well that's not a story for a faceless forum.

If they vote to separate I will go into Scotch hoarding mode immediately. My existing 7 bottles is clearly not enough.

Scotland also has control of the North Sea oil and natural gas reserves. They are betting on their oil reserves to keep their economy from collapsing if they do vote to secede. But, experts say that Scotland is vastly over estimating how much oil they have left. Supposedly they only have about 15 billion barrels of recoverable oil left. That's maybe another 35 years worth and then it's gone. Right now the UK uses these oil reserves as collateral to obtain cheap loans. If Scotland does secede England will no longer be able to use those oil fields as collateral which will speed up inflation and cause higher taxes in England and Scotland. Right now Scotland spends more on social services than it brings in. Things taken for granted now like free tuition and other public programs will be doomed. Scotland also doesn't control it's own national banks. During the bubble burst in 2008 1 of the 2 national banks they have was nationalized by the English parliament and the other was bought outright by another English bank. I honestly don't know which side to root for. I understand wanting to have a country of your own and control over your own destiny but at the same time they've been part of the UK for so long that to separate now or at any time in the future is just going to be a disaster. There are so many things intertwined between the 2 countries that it might be to late to try and pull them apart without destroying them both.

Being a Sutherland myself and having ancestors on the Mayflower that signed the Mayflower Compact I believe the ties between the two are too old and the young didn't get their history lessons right. When I first heard of this the Scotty in me said ditch the old cow but the English fella in me said settle down you rebel you.
