I saw something recently where the scientific community ( studying coral reefs around the World ) had found that Cubas was actually in extraordinary condition for the most part. All due to Lack of Commercializations on their Island.

So is there an upside for Cuba? Maybe some tourist revenue until it becomes to Americanized/touristy and loses its allure to American travelers. I thought the embargo was a leverage position to show we dont agree with communism. If that hasnt changed why give this up?

Going to Cuba has never really been a big problem it was getting back into the US without the feds knowing that you had been there.

I used to work with someone who went there once a month. Cuba always stamped a blank piece of paper he had in his passport. He'd fly down to the Bahamas & catch a cheap flight to Havana.

Communism has been replaced by terrorism as America's boogeyman.

Credit Nixon for learning the lesson of Viet Nam and seeing that exposing Western capitalism to a struggling backwards communist country and helping it develop would be better for America in the long run, than trying to contain it using military methods.

+1

The embargo has nothing to do with communism and everything to do with votes in Florida. fog

Well, China is communist, but in name only. The only party allowed is the Communist Party. On the other hand, their econmic system is based largely on ours and there are plenty of private entrepeneurs in China, as well as large corporations. It is a little confusing, but that's the way it is. Now, North Korea is an entierely different story.

Why would I want a new source, when I have several that I have used for years, that treat me well.

doesn't sound like on-line ordering is in play yet anyway. just that bringing back a small dollar amount of smokes/liquor will be allowed for tourists.
