http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2015/03/fox-news-regular-upset-google-will-rank-by-accuracy-let-the-public-decide-whats-the-truth/
So this is funny and disturbing.
First the funny.... seriously, it's in the title. Of course Fox will be the first group upset about google searches reducing the rank of their articles due to lack of accuracy.
But more importantly, this is tied in a large way to the concept of net neutrality. The same issues around ISPs being able to throttle bandwidth from certain sources while promoting others is at play with google's interference in searches based on whatever veracity measurement google decides to implement.
Now, there is a distinct difference, the cost to switch from using google as a search engine to using bing or any other is zero, and without any infrastructure required keeping competition from entering, this isn't something that requires any government involvement.
However, how long do you think it's going to be until other search engines are developed which rank results based on the "truth" according to whatever group created them? We will see a greater fractionation of information. People who want the "truth" according to fox news will use a search engine which filters out anything contrary... and they'll never know anything more than that.
