The University of Florida has closed a fraternity after several of its members were accused of urinating on the American flag and insulting military personnel at a Panama City retreat for wounded warriors.
Zeta Beta Tau fraternity's closure is effective immediately, Army Times reports, and comes just a week after three of its members were expelled from the organization. UF previously said it was charging the fraternity with obscene behavior, public intoxication, theft, causing physical harm and property damage.

"I continue to be saddened and disappointed by the reported mistreatment and disrespect of our military veterans," UF President Kent Fuchs said in a statement. "Our university has always honored, and will always honor, the service of veterans. The reported conduct of this fraternity contradicts the values of service and respect that are at the center of this university."

The fraternity members were accused of harassing veterans attending the Warrior Beach Retreat in Panama City on April 17. The meeting's organizer said fraternity members threw marshmallows at military members' vehicles, made inappropriate comments to females attending the retreat, tore flags off their cars and reportedly urinated on American flags. Other members allegedly spat on a service member and his dog.

The fraternity members were in Panama City for a spring formal.

Well played UF!

Just curious.... for the folks that are cheering what this university did (I agree) do you also agree with how the other university handled the frat with the lynching song?

I have no problem with how it was handled by the school president.

Too many fraternities too out of control. Maybe they all should be banned.
