Joe Ganim was just elected mayor of Bridgeport,CT, the same job he had from 1991 to 2002 before he was arrested and sentenced to prison for taking bribes and kickbacks on that job. Released after 7 (?) years in prison he ran again for Mayor this year on a platform including the phrase "second chance".

Bridgeport is considered one of the worst small cities in the USA

Hey why not....Marion Barry voters set the precedent for this Crap several years ago after being busted wit da HO's and some crack Coke

The backstory on this upstanding citizen.

In 2003, Ganim was convicted by a federal jury on 16 felony counts of racketeering, bribery, conspiracy, mail fraud, and tax evasion for accepting more than $500,000 in cash, diamonds, expensive wine, tailored clothing, high-priced meals, and home renovations in a widespread kickback scheme that led to the convictions of 10 of his associates. He served seven years in federal prison and then was eventually released from a Hartford halfway house in 2010.

Lemmings, one and all. Anyone that votes for anyone who is a felon cannot think for themselves to well.

Lots of positions around here go unopposed, regardless of how many times the holder of the seat is in trouble with the law. Nobody wants the job, so without competition, the criminal stays.

Plenty of competition - maybe too much with 2 other candidates. I hope it doesn't give our 2 time loser former governor the idea of running for office. Wait, he's supposed to be making his second prison trip anytime now - maybe down the road.

Plenty of gov officials are criminals on both the local and national level. Most just have never been tried for it let alone sent up the river.

Read the first two stories Google brought up, not one mention he's a democrat.

I agree with DED, plenty on both sides. Most people with half a brain cell are tired of the media who has a lower approval rating than congress.

Cianci was the best mayor money could buy.

The guy beat up his wife's lover with a fireplace log. Or something like that.
Corrupt, connected, and ready to fight for what is right.
The guy got things done.

A convicted felon looses his right to own a firearm, but is still allowed to run for the same public office that he committed his crimes???

People really are stupid!
