Just when one thinks the Entire nation has lost it's mind, it seems the majority in Houston have kept theirs
( sadly 39% of their voters actually thought the bill was a good idea ) But a win is a win. =d>

This must be overturned at the federal level as obviously the Houston voters have not "evolved."

What I find interesting is the disconnect between what the people want and what the government dictates.

Yes, the LGBT community deserves equality, but not at the expense of the majority of the population. What seems to be missing is common sense and comprise. All or nothing is not very effective.

Got an email from the hospital saying they will be removing gender labels from bathrooms out of respect to the transgender community.

We had coed locker rooms before, when the unit was much smaller. Wasn't really an issue, but many are quite upset about me taking a dump in their locker room now. Can't wait.

Issue solved... Floor to ceiling stalls and bathrooms by stance... Those that can pee in a standing position and those that "require" sitting. Both would have stalls for the regular dookie business as well.

So I was a little confused by this, so I thought I'd look into it a bit.
Apparently Texas doesn't have a state-wide non-discrimination law. So you can be discriminated against for being male, female, transgender or you can be discriminated against for being gay, straight, bisexual, whatever. The only law that would protect you from discrimination would be any existing federal laws.

But all some people seem to focus on is the bathroom thing. Apparently the section prohibiting locker room discrimination was removed well before the ordinance was brought up for a vote.... So the people who voted against it were NOT voting against some transgenders using bathrooms ordinance... they were voting against a standard equal rights ordinance.

Keeping it Klassy houston.

Maybe they weren't voting "against a standard equal rights ordinance"....maybe many (most?) were voting to validate sufficiency of federal equal rights laws

Very possible. I don't know enough about why local governments have put in place equal rights ordinances... I would expect (on first blush) that federal laws would be adequate, but apparently many cities in Texas have implemented their own local ordinances.

Sounds like Houston is a big fan of Big Government and wants rights to be dictated at the federal level... ;)

What if I want to open carry a firearm?

I should be able to use the bathroom anywhere I want.
