I wonder why people are flocking to the suburbs around the country?

Rick, Here is a quote from the article.
"If members of the vigilante group are found patrolling illegally with weapons, he said, police will disarm them."

I have an idea ... if members of the GANGS are found with weapons, disarm them.

Everybody is armed in Houston, or most of Texas for that matter, some legally and some not. It's best to assume that everyone is.

Steet thugs dont respect authority. They respect nobody. They need to be exterminated. I hope the police can get this situation under control. But if they cant, then more power to the vigilantes. Im tired of gang violence in the bay area. I dont live near it but sometimes I drive through areas that I wouldnt want to get out of my car in. There just arent enough police to patrol every hot spot. I support the vigilantes. Mag

Can't give an opinion because I don't know how bad the neighborhood really is..I'm not familiar with Houston
BTW, Rick, I got the discs, THanks!
Unfortunately they won't all load correctly (same problem as last time)...I tried a few different things and even tried it on another computer but there's a problem with the discs...Coach had the same problem as I did with his
I appreciate it though!

are these the screen saver disks? i must have used up the one time use of the disks. i think these are the originals you are talking about. maybe they should be trashed.

the neighborhood is getting too bad. several murders have hit national headlines in the past few weeks. these gang bangers are killing people that happen to be near their target.

I spoke to someone today who used to live in that area and still goes back home once a year...He told me that that area isn't as bad as the media makes it out to be

having lived just on the other side of 45 there (that is where the university of Houston is)That area right there is a btansition area. West of there is alright but that area is not one anybody I knew would go on a regular basis willingly. Although southwest (scott and wheeler) of there is the worst neighborhood in the city and clubs and bats would do you no good over there.

I worked the LA area. You want to see a gang riddled area... try Lennox, East Inglewood, Compton along Rosecrans, Watts. It is obvious and rampant. I know other cities have this as well.

From a gang standpoint...you get hassled if you look "ganster" and wear something that distinguishes you as being affiliated to another gang.

If you see a person who looks like a gangster, has tats like a gangster, talks and has mannerisms like a gangter...then he/she either is or wishes he or she was in a gang. (If it looks like a duck...)

They get treated as gang members by gang members and police. If they want to avoid the stigma, then dress and behave differently. Obviously, if they aren't affiliated, then they enjoy the attention, or they wouldn't dress and act that way.

Police can, with a concerted effort, signifantly impact a problem neighborhood with parole searches, task forces, undercover operations, stings, etc. Presence alone doesn't act as a deterrant...just a temporary delay in activity around the cop and cop car.

I think the vigilante approach isn't necessarily bad. But it is upon the neighborhood to make the calls, go to city hall meetings, demand better response time and response results. The vigilante approach caused attention to come to the problem...and that is the goal.

It is easier to bust hookers than armed holdup men; easier to bust grass smokers than murderers; easier to bust armed but law-abiding females than armed criminals. Everyone wants an easy bust.

Everyone wants criminals disarmed. That'll never happen. When all the law-abiding citizens are disarmed, no one will feel more secure than the armed criminal.
