A Bueso bummer.....

I, like some of you here, am a Bueso Genesis fan.
(And there's some of you who don't like them.)
Literally ALL of the ones I bought in 2012, and 2013, were great.....with an occasional tight draw here and there.
Alas, those are now all gone.
The Toros and Robs from Feb. 2014 have also been great.......and fortunately I have a good stash from that month.
I broke into a 10-pack of Robs I got in Oct. 2014 a few days ago.
First one was............terrible.....no point dancing around....acrid, nasty taste.....I ditched it......and figured, well, I just finally got a lemon. Just lit up a second one out of that pack............same thing.......bummer.

Now I'm somewhat nervous about a box of Toros (May 2014) and really nervous about a box of Robs (Sept. 2014) that I have resting.
Oh well, 2012 and 2013, and early 2014 (which is likely 2013 anyways I'm guessing) were great IMO.
That Oct. 2014 10-pack of thus far nasty Robs was the last Genesis I purchased, mainly because I have a good supply.....................(unless those 2 boxes of Toros and Robs turn out to be turds.)

Now if I had smoked a few of those nasty Robs as my first Genesis??
Meh............I would wonder what all the fuss was about as well, and would never even consider them.

Unless the next 8 out of that 10-pack are back up to par.....................Genesis are off my buy list.

That is a bummer Angry

Although I have a decent amount of RBs, never did get boxes of them but at the price points that I got them for, not too worried if the ones I have left turn out to be turds. Hope your remaining RBs turn out better.

Now I'll have to go home and check on my purchase dates....

Looking forward to an update from some other purchasers, especially those that are more recent.

had a couple 5ers of the genesis robusto from here not too long ago... every last one of them had undertones of musty hay/ barn-like odor... very similar to gran habano stuff... never used to get this on these... it was very disappointing... doubt I'll pick any up ever again... the odyssey is - at best - a $2 cigar... not a bad one, just not great...

I'll try a few more out of that pack in the next few days and report back.

I've got some from early 2015 that I'll try to find and smoke Wednesday. It's gonna be too cold tomorrow. I had a bunch of Odysseys and smoked them all - at best a mediocre mild yard gar. I hope you just got a few bad ones King.

I am curious as to how you arrived at that decision.
Smoke a few......a fiver.........or?
Like I said, had my first experience with a Genesis been with the two I smoked recently?...........they would never have made my buy list either.

Smoked a couple shortly after they first came out. Knew then they weren't for me regardless of how cheap they are.

That's a bummer to hear, I bought a bunch of them last year for cheap work drive smokes that I could just chuck when I got home regardless of how much is left without caring about it.

Fortunately, I found other cheap driving smokes since then that I like better ;)

Still, might have to buy another box just to see whether I still like them or not... it's a cheap enough gamble, assuming people aren't bidding them up to ridiculous levels ($2.50+ per stick).

Found an April 2015 Genesis robusto last night and if I get home in time this afternoon I'll give it a try. I didn't particularly like the looks of it though.

Got home just before 4 PM and lit a robusto up. It looked good out of the wrinkly cello. A bit too tight on the draw and it burned unevenly. Not much in the way of flavor and the draw remained tight. Had to relight once as it was about to go out. Nothing bad in taste, just more like nothing and I had a better $ 1 yard gar a few days ago. I'll be holding off buying any more unless I smoke one that's much better. Perhaps the good tobacco of old is gone and the new stuff doesn't match up. Put it down at about half way- getting too cold out.

Not great but ok. Not much flavor in beginning but has some by the end.

Well I just "finished" a third one out of that 10-pack.
Not as bad as the first two......but still crappy....I ditched it after less than 2 inches, and only hung in there to be sure it suqed.
I'm sure.
It has the distinct taste of a cigar made of poorly fermented tobacco.
Now often, this results in that tell-tale ammonia smell at the head after a few draws.
These don't have that smell, but they have that acrid taste, with a nasty after taste as your bonus feature.
Bummer.
Guess I'll have to check on those two boxes I have resting.........
Gonna go light up a MoWPA to get this funky taste outa my mouth.

Just a quick update to this tired thread:
So I took the rest of that 10-pack (7 cigars) and moved them to a small humi I keep at 60-62......just to see what it may/may not do.
I've smoked 2 more of that group in the last 3 days.........and they are now decent yard gars.
A month at the lower RH did them some good. They're still not as good as earlier Buesos I've had, but serviceable while I putz around the house, etc.
Haven't checked my other boxes......but if there's a similar issue, at least I have a fall back plan now.
Carry on..........

Still don't care for the habano.

The newest box of Genesis I have aren't anything like the older ones.

Oh well, didn't have much invested.

I purchased a box of the Genesis Habano and have enjoyed almost all of them. Good bang for the buck IMHO.

Bought a few Habanos a while back. Didn't care for the first one I had and set the others aside to try after a few months rest. Haven't had the regular Genesis, but do have one in my hulk from the Noob PIB. Curious about it.

I liked them both, I liked the maduro more than the habano.

They made decent drive home from work smokes. I've found smaller cigars since then that I prefer at the same price point that I don't end up chucking half of it (I wasted quite a few of these, but it's all good, got them for cheap).

That's the only thing I really used them for was for was the ride home from work or yard gars.

They were decent for that.

Bought about 20 of them in 4 sizes/shapes, not sure how many I've tried - not sure how many are left - won't be buying any more - didn't care for them. Maybe with age they will get a bit better.

Well if this current 10 pack is a representation of the 2014 and later releases...............meh.
Still for me, the Toros I scored in 2012 and 2013 were very very good......easily worth twice what I paid....or more.
Wish I had grabbed more back then.
On the other hand..........maybe I just got really lucky with the batches I purchased.
Doesn't really matter, I'm done with Buesos for a while.............if not forever.

I Love the sampler wooden ashtrays...
I won about 15 + over the last 3 years....
whatever toro comes in those are the best ones I have had...the Genisis project i think?
only have had a few bad ones , mostly from the
few actual 6 pack samplers w/o the wooden ashtray.

What are you drinking or eating while your smoking? Have you been taking any medicines? I've had to play around with my palate to get some cigars, beers, and other stuff to taste right. Most notably was some Shiner Bock I thought went sour but then I asked the bartender for a couple olives and it drank better than ever after that. And I do notice that taking some medicines/suppliments skew my tastebuds as well so double check and verify it's not something else that is reacting witb your palate.

That's good advice.
I'm fairly in tune with my palate, and I've smoked cigars for a while, and I've smoked many Bueso Genesis.
I'm quite certain that I have a less than stellar 10 pack on my hands.
I am curious about my other two boxes from 2014, and I'll be checking on them one of these days soon.
