TBH, I don't know what that means....is it someone born male on the way to being female? vice versa?

Regardless...I'm pretty sure there have been people in the military showering alongside someone who sexual desires members of the sex that they're next too ....for....ever?

I'm sort of devil advocating here because I don't claim to have much understanding of the transgender stuff...but I find your suggestion about avoiding 'odd' situations a poor reason to deny a person from serving if otherwise qualified

I don't claim to know anything about transgender stuff other than I thought it was a choice... Which is why the Don't ask Don't tell thing works.... you don't actually have to have an operation to be transgender right? I really don't know and prolly shouldn't even comment... Mellow

I was smugly confident in the 'choice' camp for a long time....but then, I thought that about that gay disease, too. It is only one 'example', but the 60 Minutes episode about 'Skylar' was sorta eye-opening....not the only impact in my evolving opinion on transgenderness....but it was a biggie

This decision is to be inclusive to what, .03%?

The administration did this without congressional consideration. Not necessary, but it's not odd to refer these changes to congress. This does present issues of self identifying, sleeping arrangements and bathrooms to some extent but my bigger questions are what does this do to morale and who OK's someone's claims. Or are all claims taken at face value?

The gay part doesn't bother me, the part that bothers me is I don't see this improving the overall product in any way. Don't see it necessarily hurting, but I see more risk that direction.

My point is I think morale would be hurt if a woman had to shower with a man who's gender identity was female, who's sexual identity was towards women, and who still had a male anatomy. Yes, I certainly have no working knowledge of this, but I have no working knowledge of female reproductive rights, but I feel very strongly pro choice. In both cases, my opinion is exactly that. My opinion.

A work around would seem to be additional restrooms, shower rooms, and locker rooms. Given how transgender has been approached in public schools, I doubt the above would happen.

Actually, most Soldiers really don't have an issue with most of this stuff. Do your job...that is what is important. Most of these issues are political agendas and the military is a great testing ground.

Bad idea.

Military is supposed to be a brutal, ruthless killing machine.

If you have sally boys with lisps talking about their man-made vaginas, the whole system loses credibility.

There's plenty places in this world for trannies to do their thing, IMO the battlefield and the gridiron should be off limits.
