Melania Trump has threatened to sue The Daily Mail, Politico and at least eight other news outlets for defamation, her lawyer says.

Trump, the wife of the Republican presidential nominee, has placed The Daily Mail and other news organizations "on notice... for making false and defamatory statements about her supposedly having been an 'escort' in the 1990s," Charles Harder, a lawyer for Trump, said in a statement.

In addition, Harder said that he had put Politico on notice for "false and defamatory statements" regarding its reporting on Trump's immigration history. Politico confirmed that its reporters had been sent notices.

The notices come just three days after The Daily Mail, a UK publication, published a report citing a story in a Slovenian magazine that claimed a New York modeling agency that once represented Trump "also operated as an escort agency for wealthy clients." That report was then picked up or referenced by other news outlets.

The outlets that have been put on notice by Melania Trump include The Daily Mail, The Week, Politico, Inquisitr, Tarpley, Before It's News, Liberal America, LawNewz, Winning Democrats and Bipartisan Report, Harder told CNNMoney.

Sleazy, of course....but if the larger questions linger, it could be more than irritating noise.....Was she a hooker? Was she here illegally...and for how long? Did Trump step out on his wife to be with her? Again?

As to the first, I couldn't care less...should even be off limits for discussion, IMO...but it will be entertaining TV for a while
As to the second...as the Anti-Illegal Immigration Candidate for the ages, this could be interesting
The last...I don't care, but he should probably lay off ragging on Bill for a few months

ignoring all of the deflections above, it seems to me that Trump has opened the door to this stuff.

I agree with X, it should be off limits, is tasteless etc. but he was very menacing and hinted at slimy stuff that he threatened to release if provoked, about Cruz's wife.

Mudslingers can't complain about getting return fire.

This whole story is just white noise. Did Trump's wife pose nearly nude as a model? Yes (so she must be a whore). This is like a suggestive counterfactual question and line of thought. It would be like me asking any of you if you have ever had sex with underage boys. You would, most likely, answer "no I've never had sex with underage boys." Then I could print that you "denied having sex with underage boys" even though it has nothing to do with anything.
