I love a good smoke like the next guy, but I'll be damned if I can get a CAO anything or a LGC to stand on it's own ash!

Hey, I've got a couple with that band; which line is this? Is this the Clasico? The El Capitans, Peg Legs and Full Sails all have a ship on the band.

Too bad the photo got 'squished' when you downloaded it to your computer. I was going to post that pic also ... but I was having trouble sizing it realistically.

But I have to say, it's true! I did get one to 'stand on it's ash' on the railing of my deck. It was just too cool ...

I went inside to get the digital camera, and when I got back outside ... the cat was sitting there with a smile on her face, and the cigar was on the lawn. Oh well, will try again on another calm (cat-less) day.

BTW, there are sites online that sell Bucanero cigars by the box. One will even sell singles and 5-packs.

As far as Cigar International (and CB) selling/auctioning Bucanero cigars, it just may come to fruition in the very near future. As a Bucanero Ambassador (doing the job I signed up to do), a few weeks back I talked to Robert about the possibility of giving CI/CB the opportunity offering their line of cigars ... and I hooked him up with Keith Meier of CI/CB.

After several two-way and three-way email conversations, it looks fairly positive that it just may happen. Robert does not seem to have a problem with it (because of CI's brick and mortar), and Keith emailed me and told me that he's sure they’ll be buying them – but how much or when that will take place he's not sure of yet. He needs to get the pricing and other info first.

Let's cross or fingers ... :^)

cayman2b --- in the past, it's the white ash that has always been the sign of a premium cigar.

A gray (charcoal) ash has always been one of the ways to tell if you are smoking a genuine Cuban cigar.

In reality ... all it means is that in a white ash, there was magnesium in the soil where the tobacco was grown. A gray ash only means that there was a lack of magnesium in the soil (which Cuban soil seems to lack) ...

Slim, you've obviously researched the topic more than I, but it is my understanding that growing tobacco repeatedly in the same field will deplete the magnesium and crop rotation is required to restore or replenish it ...

but .. Cuba's economy being what it is, tobacco farming will yield far greater dividends for the farmer than rotation of crops could do, so tobacco is grown repeatedly ...

That said, perhaps it's psychological, but I think cigars with a white ash (and therefore a higher magnesium content) are generally "cleaner" tasting while those with less magnesium tend to be more "earthy" tasting ...

Steve --- you are correct.

Growing the same species of any crop repeatedly in the same area will deplete most all nutirents in the soil needed by that particular plant.

Crop rotation is one way to vary that, as some plants will put back into the soil (alfalfa and other legumes being nitrogen-fixing plants). Another way is just using fertilizers (organic of chemical) to replenish what has been used up.

But like you said, Cuba being a poor country, surely does not waste labor or money on fertilizing their crops.

That is why it is a good indicator when you smoke a Cuban that has a white ash ... you know it is counterfeit.

Slim & Steve: I understand your responses with crop rotation and fertilizers to replenish certain nutrients and electrolytes back in the soil. Furthermore, about the white ash being Mg deficient and gray ashes being Mg enriched.
My question is though Cuba is a underdeveloped cigar producing country which probably doesn't practice the above processes, do the other major underdeveloped countries such as D.R., Nicargaua, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Mexico, practice expensive crop rotation and fertizing?
Hence, is that charcoal/gray ash from Cuban cigars due to other or lack of other nutrients compared to the other soils from the other underdeveloped countries?
Just curious guys.

I saw that on the site and tried it myself on a Texas Star (thanks Cliff!). No ashtray so I did it on Mom's driveway. Sure enough, there it stood on a one inch ash! That was impressive.
Don't know nothing bout no crop rotation in South America. (triple negative, way to go Mean!)
