I have a Ruger GP100 in 357 Magnum. It has been my go to gun for years. Something to be said for stainless beauty. 6” hand cannon. I have never missed with it. I have even used it to bring down a deer, once or twice.

The tiny lil pocket 380's have pretty stout recoil springs and are harder to rack the slide than a larger framed SA pistol.

Beretta tip barrel pocket pistols eliminate the need to rack a slide.

I usually carry a LCR, and shoot it well. But DAO revolvers are much more difficult to shoot accurately. And if lacking the grip strength to pull back a slide, can she pull a DAO trigger?

Can the trigger on a DAO not be worked on to reduce the trigger pull?

My wife's hands are weak also.. prolly from years and years of doing hair.. those scissors take a toll apparently... Anyways, recently bought her a Ruger LC9.. I was willing to buy her a similar sized Dog and a Kimber that she could operate easily.. the LC9 worked for her but I wondered if the price of the others scared her off... But as long as she can use it I'm Ok with it also... Mellow

My brother and I purchased a Sig for our mother, last year for Mother’s Day. 9mm with 5.25” barrel. My mother loves it, and it keeps her from stealing my 357. Lol

Get a ZF-1. No traditional slide to rack and the trigger is really light.

S&W 442. My old lady has rheumatoid arthritis and can shoot this pretty well. It's accurate and lightweight, groups well center mass with 135gr. GDs.

Only downside in my opinion, is only a 5 shot.

When we go out together, I carry a Model 10-5 snubby for ammo compatibility.

S&W Ladysmith .38 Special Model 642

A good gunsmith should be able to lighten the trigger pull and smooth the action while maintaining the reliability and safety of the gun............and has probably done it more than a few times.

Somewhat.

I've done trigger jobs on a few smiths and rugers. While you can reduce the spring strength and smooth the action, you still need to retain enough spring for reliable ignition, and can't get away from the trigger pull needing to index and lock the cylinder while it is pulling the hammer back.

You can smooth it out, and reduce it slightly, but can't reduce the weight required to pull by very much. You can just make it smoother.

yah, get a snub nose S&W Airweight 38...small grips, lightweight, easy to carry, easy to shoot and re-load...check to see if they still make the hammerless version...that'll make it a lot easier to draw...

more stopping power than 22 and 380...

Hopefully she doesn't plan to wait until a round is needed to rack back the slide? If she doesn't have ample hand strength to to pull the slide back, then I'd doubt her ability to maintain a firm enough grip for the slide to blowback and load a round after a shot is fired.

Find her a man with a bigger dick so she can work on her grip. Problem solved.

My wife has a Ruger SR9 - cant rack it to save her life. Her carry is a hammer less DAO S&W 38 J-Frame.
Even with a sub nose and and an aluminum frame she qualified for her CCL with it.

Now she is better at the rage with the Ruger, but she is spot on with the S&W revolver.
Keeps it in the bath robe when I’m out of town. No brained and nothing to go wrong.

Sometimes simple is better.

I'll second that.........perfect pocket weapon and with the OR grips should fit small womans hands just fine.Trigger pull is smooth. For some reason the hammerless S&W's have much better trigger pulls than their hammered cousins.

I owned several guns through out the years and burned my share of gun powder in the day but I have never ventured into doing any internal mods my self. Main reason is that I wanted the firearm to work after the mod was completed.

Picked up a S&W 638 a couple of years ago from my youngest cub. It was one that his wife was carrying in her purse and beating it to hell and back. As a result he decided to get her something else.

When I first got the pistol it had the strongest trigger pull of any that I ever remember shooting. Took it to a local gunsmith and had it checked. Trigger pull was 11 lbs and I wanted it down to 4 or 4.5. When finished it checked in at 6 lbs, not what I wanted but a lot better. Guess some of what you said above came into play in this case.

Ray,
Let us know what she decides on. As soon as we make the official move to NC, Donna and I are going for our CCWs (near impossible to get here in NJ). Donna has the same problem your wife has. She can't rack the slide on a semi-auto, though her marksmanship skills are excellent. We'll be looking for a small .357 mag revolver for her. I figured she could always load it with .38 specials or .38 special +P if she can't become proficient with the magnum rounds.

Ruger LCR .327. can shoot anything from a .32 S&W to full out .327 magnum. And it's a 6 shot revolver at the same size as the j frame 5 shot. The 32 S&W is no more than a bunny fart. A full bore .327 magnum will out perform the .38 +p and come near a .357. The only issue you will have is finding ammo. I can find 32 S&W longs locally and occasionally 32 H&R Magnum, but have not found .327 Magnum ammo locally. So I have to order them or roll my own

The Ruger LCR is a good choice, though not the most pleasant to shoot.

Built for personal and home protection, the innovative M&P380 Shield EZ pistol is the latest addition to the M&P M2.0 family and provides an easy-to-use protection option for both first-time shooters and experienced handgunners alike.

Other Features
• Easy to rack slide.
• Crisp, light trigger with tactile and audible trigger reset.
• Includes (2) Easy to Load 8-Round M&P380 Shield magazines.
• Grip safety - grip pistol to fire.
• Windage adjustable, white dot rear sight (tool included).
• Can disassemble without pulling trigger.
• Grip texture optimized to size and recoil.
• Tactile loaded chamber indicator (TLCI) - can see and feel if there is
a round in the chamber.
• Available with or without ambidextrous, manual thumb safety.
• Picatinny-style equipment rail for lights or lasers.
• Perfect size for nightstand or carry, or a day at the range.
• Reversible magazine release.

My wife carries an LC9 as well but seems to prefer to shoot my SA 40. I put a crimson trace on her LC 9 which helps her at the indoor range but it's useless in the daylight. Come to think about it, she shoots my iron sight 40 better than her pistol with a laser. She fought racking the slide at first but she seems to have overcome that somehow.

Taurus 85 is a good little revolver. Basically a copy of a “J” frame Chiefs Special. I have the de-spurred model and is snagless. The downside is you lose the single action feature. The new model 850 Ultra Lite goes one step further and has an internal hammer and a full lug barrel.
