Great. More national debt than we need for his project.

I am opposed to declaring an emergency for a number of reasons, not least of which is setting a bad precedent. I am ignorant as to the financial machinations, but the money would certainly have to come from somewhere. Some program funded for different, specific use, thereby subverting Congress' role in appropriating money.

If such a decision were determined to be solid enough to survive inevitable legal challenges, maybe it could be a way to get us through the current clusterfluck we are in....Trump gets to claim his wall....Dems get to claim they did everything possible to deny him, and we can get the government open. On the whole, I'm opposed, but I can see why it might happen.

Yes, for the federal employees not getting paid. I say hire them to build the wall.

don't have to declare a "national emergency" to do that...just agree to sign a CR, the same one Trump said he would sign before this "emergency," and Congress will tee it up...

We are going down a slippery slope if we let this become the new normal in budget requests and negotiations by POTUS...next, it could be a demand for $10 Billion for giant subsidies to fund green and sustainable energy initiatives to combat climate change by a Dem POTUS, or "I'll own a shutdown"...

see where this could go?

I could go for sea walls to protect parts of our country along the coast that face real threats of flooding from ever stronger hurricanes...

Dems don't have to do anything in 3 weeks.

As I've said before. Dems are doing their job, just as trumpenfeurher is.

If he doesn't have enough people to build a wall, he doesn't get a wall. He can get some negotiated thing... But he has to sell the Dems on anything... Ie he has to fork over real concessions.

Trump is teaching himself and his base that maybe they actually need govt. in a modern country as large and complex as the US...

In 3 weeks if there's no deal, which Crying Chuck alluded to, we'll see the Emergency thing... I think Trump drew a line... Mellow

Watched the news most of the afternoon, while prepping and cooking chili, and I kept hearing Trump's Wall won't get funded.. Bush's and Obama's wall was fine but it's clear they won't fund Trump's.. Mellow

think another shutdown and a declaration of an emergency will have a better ending? A wall that Mexico will pay for?

maybe we should round up all the violent Mexican felons in our prisons and threaten to drop them off in Mexico all at once, but scattered all over the country, if they don't pay up $5.7 Billion every year until the wall is built (8 - 10 years)...kinda like what Castro did in the 90's to the USA...but with 1,000's more bad hombres...

Yeah... placing Mexican criminals in Mexico, which is basically run by Mexican criminals, is a great idea!

"Mexico is a deeply unstable place. That’s not an attack on the Mexican people; it’s an acknowledgment of what anyone who knows anything about the country will tell you. The national murder rate is five times ours. Since 2006, more than 250,000 people have been murdered in Mexico, including hundreds of politicians and judges. There’s a war going on in Mexico, and it’s spurred by drug cartels that reach into the highest levels of the Mexican government. That's not an exaggeration.

The attorney general of an entire Mexican state recently pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges. A governor of a state on the U.S. border took bribes to let cartels operate freely, which they did. And just the other day, the country’s previous president was credibly accused by a witness at trial, in court, of taking a $100 million bribe from El Chapo Guzman."

I don't want Trump to declare a "national emergency" to get the wall built. I'd rather our elected politicians agree that we need it. What I just cited is real and true. We need much, much better security at the border and that includes a viable barrier (i.e. - not a fence, which is easily breached.)

How do you figure that? If the Democrats and Republicans reach an agreement and a bill passes the House of the Representatives and the Senate Trump could veto it again. That would be on Trump. If the Republicans are unreasonable then it would be on them. If the Democrats are unreasonable then it would be on them. If the Republicans and Democrats are unreasonable it would be on both of them. If, well you get the picture I hope. There are so many moving parts here that laying the blame prematurely makes no sense.
