lotsa lard tubs in SoCal...every Mexican restaurant has one...MickeyD used to use lard tubs too, but fed (FDA, USDA?) kiboshed those, on behalf of veggie fat producers like Crisco

It's like Springtime.

Didn't feel like spring when I couldn't make it up the gradual incline to my house two days back due to a sheet of ice. Nor yesterday when I was installing a new mailbox with snow blowing sideways. Bah humbug on winter

(Don't mind me. Just b1chin)

That would make sense for you since it's pig juice.

Getting my tools together to go back down to my parents house for the day. Dad wants to take down a short section of load bearing wall, and I've gotta figure out how to do it...

Stopping at the lumber yard for some 12 foot 2x8's and a boat load of half inch carriage bolts. Need to skip the rafters about 3 feet from the bearing wall where they rest and grab the wall behind the closet. Not a fan of doing this, but I think it's the best option available.

same boat here.....grabbing a card on way home from work might mitigate things slightly, but I won't hold my breath....we did go out to dinner yesterday, but that was her idea, too....will still get a card, but no way I'm paying for roses today....same dozen that will cost $10 tomorrow will cost $65 today

When I got up to the attic things looked a lot better than I was picturing.

5 rafters had to extend about 16 inches. Didn't take long. Removed the load wall (old closet face - they built a new closet on another wall in the room) and even with me up in the attic, the rafters didn't have any bounce to em. They moved more before building the wood sammich and extending to the next wall (rear of the closet) Also, the new load wall is closer to the basement I beam than before. I think it'll work.

Smashed my thumb pretty good with a hammer and got myself all sweaty and coated in 1970's fiberglass insulation. Good times.

I couldn't hold a candle to Mike Rowe. He's a very articulate man. I rant and ramble and don't speak too well in real life.
