I really don't have any complaints.. MSRP was slightly under that of a new Cadillac. Got them for a bargain on here. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here who doesn't bid on them. You're the real heroes. Happy memorial day. God save the Queen.

3 Gurkha Monte? You are welcome to them. Tony will tell you most suck, there are some that are ok, and a few that are good. He's right. That being said, smoke what you like. That being said, there are so many cigars that taste good that can be had for similar money, why not try to find those? If put up a post stating what you enjoy, mild, medium, strong. Connie, habano, maduro and so on. Ask for suggestions.
After the jackazzery people will suggest specific cigars that they think might be in your wheelhouse.

I paid 2 each or less for some nice ones and they weren't the only thing I bought by far. I've heard construction sucks but I gotta give them credit. 3 out of 3 were torpedoes and unlike others I was able to just cut off a small little bit of the tip and get a decent draw for a few puffs instead of having to cut off 3/4 of an inch right from the start. Most of the torpedoes I've had usually are too tight.
Beyond that it's been pleasant flavors and good times. I had Park Ave Maduro, Status, and Centurian. Got a couple others on standby. Maybe they will be terrible so I can join the haters club.

Varina farms breakfast blend was better for a buck 50 but I am not talking shut on Gurkha anymore.

Move me from the cool table.

I haven't bought a Gurk in over a year and have smoked about 600 more or less. I'm much more reluctant to try the newer issues. The 3 VHS mentioned are ones I have smoked and the only one that is just almost good is the Status torpedo. I have some left that must be 5 years or more old, but I'm not sure that I will still enjoy them. I tried the status churchill and it was judged a yard gar.

Maybe another Gurkfest is in order. If ya got 'em smoke 'em.

Didn't get any packaging. The names and bands are like satire at this point. A cigar with two bands, one with "STATUS" has to be for hipsters who smoke ironically just to poke fun at everyone else who takes this so very seriously.
I was really expecting a cigar that would taste terrible and maybe blow up in my face or disintegrate. I deliberately smoked them at times when it would be convenient to toss half of the stick away.
Instead I actually enjoyed each one down to the last inch. They made a lot of smoke... Quality was better than the Ramon Buesos I thought were going to be great and are not. The wrappers cracked but that's not unique either. The RPs cracked too. So did the Buesos. Three wrappers were cracked in my last order when it arrived.

I don't pay more than 2.50 for any cigar on cbid at this point. My last order was $169 shipped and taxed for 132 cigars

There are some decent Gurkhas.
Problem is they don’t stay decent.
And that bit about a Gurkha blowing up in your face? That’s no internet folklore..........happened to me on a Titan.
Out of that ten pack, there were a few that tasted good and burned ok. A few that wouldn’t burn, and s few that burned great but tasted like chit.........and the one that exploded.
All in one tenski.

There are decent sub $2 cigars out there, but harder to find these days. If you want a cheat sheet, just look at what Tony smokes.

They say variety is the spice of life.

I remember my first Titan - thought it was a great one, but every one that followed was nearly awful. No blow ups tho- I wonder if that is something they have worked on fixing.

Hafta admit, I've tried the Doble Maduro.

Being a maduro freak,
it brought visions of a porterhouse stacked on a T-bone in my mind.
The reality was disappointing. Nuthin special. And nothing I'd buy again.
But it did have a good nicotine kick though, so there's that.

Got a handful left stewing in one of my humis, possibly developing a varnish.
Who knows? Might surprise me.

- Sorry Tony. Picked em up before I knew ya

Was helping out burning brush, limbs and other debris from the Tornado and thought to myself: "Perfect time to smoke a Gurkha." Proud to say never bought one straight up, but have had them gifted to me by well-meaning types and CI likes to stick them in samplers.

So it was Gurkha Warpig time! Have to say that, in between a number of necessary touch-ups and one total relight, the smoke from the Pig held its own against the burning refuse, but so would a burning tire.

The strange thing is that, every inch or so, you would get a few puffs of wonderful flavor. I mean really, really, good and you start thinking that there might be something worthwhile there, then - poof - it's gone. How do you roll a cigar like that?

For the most part the smoke from the fire had a better aroma and needed less tending to.

As I said, if you like it, smoke it. Many folks like Gurkha, Puros Indios, Rocky Patel, Padron, A. Fuente, Tatuaje, and many, many others. They're all still in business making cigars, and have been for years. Probably be making them for years to come. Somebody is buying the smokes you like, might as well be you.
Just like beer, wine, scotch, bourbon, etc, what you like may differ greatly from what I like.

So...what's the point?

You made a thread that essentially says "I have smoked three cigars and now can tell all of you, that I now know more about these cigars than any of you loud-mouth Gurkha haters"

mando and midmo will very consistently tell you to 'smoke what you like'.
I agree with them.
Come back after a couple/few months or years and tell us how often you are still smoking Gurkhas. I will not care one way or another, but I hold a couple/few opinions on the subject; Yes, Gurkhas get bashed....a lot....maybe more than they 'deserve'. Many of those doing the bashing truly have had bad experiences with Gurkhas. It is rewarding when your mind gets tricked into thinking you got a good deal....and that will affect your smoking experience....whether you admit it or not. Gurkha makes a LOT of cigars that 90%+ percent of cigar smokers will find hugely objectionable....(no, I can't prove the numbers, but I'd bet cash that it's true.) Someone on here once claimed to have smoked quite a few Gurkhas and never had one blow up....I don't recall who, but there was not a second person.

Smoke what you like.....but I don't recommend coming to cbid forum and trying to convince anyone that Gurkhas are worth our time....not much point in it.

Over 600 Gurks smoked - 0 explosions. One was without a doubt the worst cigar I ever smoked - gave 2 away and suffered thru 2 more - consistently awful. On the whole I think they may be better than RPs.

I made the mistake of buying 4 or 5 different blend Gurkha 5-ers back around Thanksgiving last year...Cheap, cheap...

After trying each blend, the rest made great Christmas presents to people that don't know any better...

I'm glad someone likes them...

I hear Central Americans and Islanders need the jobs...

And don't respond with that "they're just like kids throwing ice cubes at the sun" garbage.

.....Gurkha seems to have bettered the quality of their smokes as of late. At the right price the following that I have burned over the past year were all fair to very good smokes. Or put is this way, NONE were POOR or BAD smokes. Honestly though the only one I buy as a front like smoke is the excellent Classic Havana Blend. Really wouldn't miss any of the others.

Gurkha Classic Havana Blend Toro (6" x 54) Grade A (Very good smoke)

Gurkha Chairman's Select Churchill (7" x 55) Grade B-

Gurkha Governor's Private Reserve Perfecto (6" x 60) Grade C+

Gurkha Park Avenue Maduro Torpedo (6.25" x 52) Grade C+

Gurkha Warlord Sumatra XO (6" x 60) Grade D+ (Boring, very average, generic)

Gurkha Warpath Connecticut XO (6" x 60) Grade C+ (As far as M. to M. Conn. go it's more interesting than Macanudo)

Gurkha Beauty Rothschild (6.5" x 56) Grade B-

Gurkha Heritage Habano Toro (6.5" x 52) Grade C+ (Current bundled batch doesn't taste as good as the Boxed version)

Gurkha Centurian Connecticut Perfecto (6" x 60) Grade D (This current batch is not nearly as good as the previous)

Gurkha Grand Age Cameroon Presidente (7.5" x 52) Grade C- (Just average)

Gurkha Yakuza Habano Toro (6" x 54) Grade B

Gurkha Special Ops Maduro No. 1 (7.5" x 52) Grade B-

Gurkha Barracuda Habano Perfecto (6" x 56) Grade C+

.....I wouldn't buy the C+ again either. The ONLY one I said I would LOOK to score would be the Classic Havana Blend. But some people love average cigars and that's about what they are. Put them alongside sticks like PDR Oscuro, Obsidian, Macanudo Cafe, CAO Gold, RP Connecticut, Criojo, or Broadleaf, HC Series Shade Grown Criollo, Red, or Maduro, or 5 Vegas Classic. One dimensional and $2 per max bid.

IZON, I could have formed a harsher response. He smokes and defends Girkhas, while stating what a great deal he won based on MSRP. Also anyone who uses Van Halen as part of their handle is in all likelihood a Van Halen fan. Why pick on someone withdamaged tastebuds and damaged eardrums?

And you rightly should have Spey. No doubt!
I'm not suggesting you hold back at all.

I'm just tryin to help the young feller out and get the guy to jump in the ring.
I remember there was a witty response from him when he first showed up,
but lately he's been kinda brain-dead. Maybe he just needs a kick in the 'ol noggin...

Speyside wrote:

There's nothing in the thread regarding anything about damaged tastebuds and eardrums,
so I plead complete ignorance on that.

BTW - I don't even know who that is referring to, the screen name, or the song referenced.
I just saw Duran Duran, and well, just couldn't help myself.

Please PM me the name of the person that was referenced, and I'll make a direct apology.
And thanks Spey for calling me on it. I had no idea...

So the guy likes Gurkhas. I doubt many here just jumped right in and started smoking top shelf cigars with a well trained palette. Just about everyone who comes through here started with a cheap sampler with lots of 5 Vegas and Gurkhas. I don't understand getting pissy because he's a n00b with a n00b palette and a n00b opinion. My very first cigar was a RP Decade and I thought it couldn't get any better than that....you live, you learn, and try not to be a d1ck along the way. /shrug fog
