So Romney votes to convict. On its face, this is not that much.. but he has now gone down in history as being the first Senator to vote to impeach a president of their own party.

That's something we should think about from a few different angles.

He probably did it just to say he was the first. That's the type of stuff people like him do.

Yet he’s same as he ever was.

yea...but he tied his puppy dog to the roof of his moving car...and said 47% of Americans have their hands out, and would never vote for him...

both statements reveal a lot about his character...but at least he's got a spine, even though I believe there is something personal with Trump about his vote...that enmity goes back to when Trump said he was running and Romney was a never Trumper...

too bad he decided not to run in 2016...he coulda beat Hillary and we'd be in an alternate reality

He is a Democrat. I do not believe there are any laws that say you have to run as the party you actually belong to. The only people caught off guard by his vote are people who think he is a Republican. There is a reason he was disinvited from CPAC.

.... when the prior presidential contender for the Republicans is being called a Dem by people who wholeheartedly support a Republican president who previously tried to run as a Democrat, you have to wonder who's actually a Republican.

Did we watch a different state of the union last night? When was the last time you saw a Republican trying to outlaw free speech, guns, and was hell yeah to abortions at any term?

Last I checked Trump is for the First and Second amendments as well as condemning abortion at any stage.

But you go ahead and whine about Trump being acquitted (its forever, like impeachment I hear).

With that said. I will speak to the meat of your comment. I voted for the baseball accessory both under protest and extreme duress. I cannot honestly say if I hated Mitt before 2008 but my hatred for him was solidified back then. I jokingly told my parents we would be better off voting for Obama since he at least isn't trying to pretend he doesn't belong to a different party than he is running under.

Don't get me wrong, the Obama candidacy and the following 8 years of his presidency was a terror I lived that I can only imagine is the same terror democrats are now living under Trump. You reap what you sew. Donald Hu Ackbar. I guess I am a terrorist now.

we disagree on politics, in general, but I think we'd be friends if we met, like MACS, Abrignac, Opel and Drafter...we met and found we actually had a lot in common, despite the con/lib labels and viewpoints...so it went with victor, also a CBid contributor for a long time...you might like him if you met in person...

Not a lot of that made sense.
However, your criteria for "republican" as far as I can tell from the statement above is being for the "first and second amendment as well as condemning abortion at any stage".....

Using that criteria I don't see how you can call Mitt a dem.

Not phallating Democrats in some silly idea of bipartisanship is also high on my list of Republican criteria as well. Mitt loves to swallow the seminal fluids of Democrats.

That makes no sense.
A party platform of "Disagree with whatever the other party does"?

If the dems suddenly wanted to repeal all gun laws and block all abortions would agreeing with that make you not a republican?

My nipples perked up and turned a tickled pink color when Carville had a meltdown over his party's incontinence. But shh, don't let the Clinton fans know an old Dog like Carville is losing his bite.

Did you not see the last 4 years of our politics? Did you not see the state of the union last night? It is disagreeing with the other side by any means. *Both* sides are guilty of partisan politics and it is the Democrats who tried to put everyone in a nice little tribe that got us here.

If Democrats want to start supporting guns and block all abortions then I guess I will become a Democrat.

This is false.
There is zero evidence that the dems would "disagree with the other side by any means". In fact there is evidence to dispute this in passed bills.

I have literally only heard reference to opposing the other side "no matter what" from republicans.

Don't get me wrong, it seems to be working for them. Turn politics into a sporting event or reality show. Gets the attention/the drama/the votes.

But don't pretend "I dislike anything they like" is a platform.

99% of the current congress action has been in direct opposition "by any means" to Trump. I will hold the majority of this congress and every last goddamn person that voted for a majority member of this congress in eternal contempt.

I have since shaved and had an irritable reminder of why I stopped drinking white Russians in addition to changing my Avatar. But if you wish to continue to call me "the dude" so be it. I am sticking to Bourbon and Cuba Libres. It fuels the hatred and rage required for my president's enemies.

I know you are not refering to me on this but I never had Cuba Libre cigars. I drink a lot of Cuba Libres however.

Thank you for the suggestion on LFD. I have some Double Ligero set aside for my cruise and will be smoking at least one of them next week in NCL Escape's Humidor Room.

Spine made out of jello. He had an election for his to take and went limp in the debates. No spine at all...for anything.

Mitt is patient 0 with TDS.

He won't win any more elections either. Hope his lone vote of "conviction" was worth it...speaking of conviction...looks like the Biden kid is getting a look see.

Cuba Libre cocktail: juice of half a lime over tall glass filled with ice, add 2 oz of good rum, fill glass with cola...my wife and I would indulge with this cocktail after work, before the kids were born...liked mine a little stronger

Naw, I been a crazy (SOB of a different type) from Florida my whole life. My Cuba Libres are rather depressing for the more... sophisticated? types. I fill my 32oz half way with ice, 160ml of bacardi, a "squirt" from my bottle of publix brand lime juice, and fill it with a can of publix brand cola.

Your's sound nice though and I will likely be enjoying much better ones with my unlimited beverage package next week. Woot NCL Haven.

hey DMV: honest question...would you give a Dem POTUS the same pass if he did the same exact thing as Trump?

I'm pretty sure I'd want a Dem convicted and removed, but I understand that Hamilton said he feared impeachment will be partisan and political, that the majority might misuse the power...

Trump is a Democrat so what are you saying? Just like Reagan was a Democrat. Imagine if you kept the real leaders instead of being lemmings?

As far as impeachment? There was no high crime nor misdemeanor brought to light. A partisan hissyfit. There was no "irrefutable proof" otherwise the case would've been a slam dunk. Instead it was hearsay, innuendo and Harry Potter.
