So we have a virus which is causing no small amount of disruption to our lives.

It was identified months ago as a novel coronavirus, and eventually given the name COVID-19.

If you do a search through twitler's twitter archive, you can see a number of references to this virus as either "coronavirus" or "covid-19" up until about March 14 or March 15. After this point the only tweets of his which actually use these terms are retweets (ie, not his words, just him sharing someone else's words).

Starting March 16, he now only refers to the virus as the "Chinese Virus".

Why would he intentionally become less scientific with his words?
Why would he, now that it's becoming a clear problem in the states, try to clearly associate the virus with China (and also, with Asian Americans, and Asian immigrants)?

The Chinese govt attempted to blame the virus on our military... That's what happened and that's why the change occurred...

If that's the accepted reason, and I heard him say that too, we all need to start calling each other names according to the juvenile and chief.

On the surface I believe he thinks that and just doesn't realize the real impact. We should be playing this whole thing straight.

No one believed the chinese government. Not a single person. Hell, I'm not even sure I believe that the chinese government was stupid enough to try blaming it on us. At this point I'd almost think the US government faked the statement from the chinese government stating that it was the US military, it was that dumb a statement.

That's no reason for the president to start calling this the "chinese virus". He knows what the name of this virus is.

kidding aside, i don't much care what he says anymore. You are right. There isn't much of value there and I don't expect anything. At times it is damaging but bitching about it serves no purpose. There is an army of screaming trump chimps whos red rockets love it, another group that just doesn't pay attention and care, and another group screeching in protest. Then there is drafter who just doesn't understand and is hungry.

Since you're using the plural "viruses" (even though there isn't technically a plural) I'll assume you're referring to some group of them. Which makes your statement inaccurate. Not unexpected.

Not a reason to change what he calls it from the correct name to an incorrect name.

If they're all coming from China, then it would be horrendously stupid to refer to them all as "chinese virus". How do I know which one he's winning the war against then?

We didnt call H1N1 the North American virus.
We didn't call Ebola the African virus...
We didn't call MERS the.... oh... ok.... we did for that one.
We didn't call Zika the South American virus
We didn't call the Spanish Flu the French virus .... (that one's a fun one)

Technically we already have the "Asian Flu" (H2N2) and a Hong Kong Flu (H3N2) so adding a "Chinese virus" to that is really creating unnecessary confusion.

So why would he do it? And more importantly, why would he do it INTENTIONALLY? He clearly did not use it until the past 3 days. I can understand the idiots on facebook or cbid who can't spell corona, or remember COVID-19 so they fall back to "Chinese". But he clearly knew the correct terminology for weeks.

Poor Vic, just Soo unhappy with POTUS while all the rest of us are enjoying WINNING. I just wish there was a word I could say to convince Lefty's that government intervention doesnt help anyone except the elites in the long run or the short. I mean come on does anyone believe government is our friend. I think everyone thinks In their heart that government at its best is a necessary evil. We need strong borders and military might infrastructure and that's about it imo Therefore the best politicians serve to thwart government expansion. So he's less than sophisticated get over it and enjoy the bottom and middle portion of society enjoying the greatest economic growth ever.

Perhaps it is looking forward to an attempt to find other sources for consumer goods. Chinese could not only be equated with cheap sheet but also coming from a diseased origin.

If someone is responsible for certain numbers being good would they also be responsible when they turn bad.

Or is it not their fault if they turn bad and probably not to their credit when they were getting good.

Or just to their credit but when the house of cards fall not their fault.

To be clear I don’t put all of the blame for the last recession on Bush. Obama deserves some credit for the recovery but I think McCain and Romney would have had similar success. Trump was handed a nice economy that was growing at a good Tate until circumstances changed.

To me he deserves neither credit or blame

McCain and bammy coming together before the election to address the economy was truly American. I’m not expect that this time but maybe I will be surprised.

If China wants to start propaganda stating that the US military dropped this virus in China, which is obviously a blatant lie... why should we blame him for calling it the China virus? It originated in Wuhan China... they let it get way out of control before they said a damn word... and now the whole world is suffering for it.

Dougie, hate to break the news to you, but the market was overheated and was due for a fall. Say 15% to 20%. Unfortunatly COVID19 will end up causing a far greater drop. Also we may see unemployment rise to huge numbers/percentages. That's just the way it is.

I thought so too. That’s why I moved a bunch of funds from an s&p based fund to more diversified lifestyle funds on 1/22 or 23. I certainly didn’t predict this. It saved me a lot of money but I’m still down 70 or 80 grand.

Not sure what winning you think you're enjoying. We're literally living in a post apocalyptic scenario where toilet paper is not something which can simply be purchased. Also not sure why you're going on a rant about government. Not sure what any of your statement has to do with the topic on hand.

If this is petty response to the Chinese for a dumb rumor they started, then I simply expect better from my president.
His choice to keep calling this the "chinese virus" has real impacts on Chinese American citizens. All because he wants to get in a grade school level fight with a country we've always considered ourselves better than.

It's really sad when I know how you're trying to insult me (implying I'm acting like a woman because you believe I consume too much phytoestrogen).... but also know that the myth you're using (that products with phytoestrogen in them will confer female characteristics on the consumers) is ridiculous and scientifically unsupported.

What does it say about you that you aren't willing to follow up on the urban myths to know whether the insult you're using is true or not?
