I am new to CBid, and fairly new to the art of smoking as well. I went a little crazy on my first bidding and just received a large box of smokes. I am at work, but my wife called me to tell me my X-Mas gift arrived (I worked a deal where I gave her her gift early so I could get my smokes without a wait). Anyway, she told me that there is no way all my new smokes will fit in my two small humis. I plan to start bidding for another good-sized one, but what do I do in the meanwhile? Please help as I don't want my new smokes to go bad.

I know...piss poor planning. I didn't expect to win so many bids.

Find a rubbermaid container of the right shape, cut a few slits in the lid with a boxcutter and line the floor with cedar sheets from the cigar boxes. For humidifiers use a film canister. Punch a bunch of holes in the lid with a thumbtack. Place a piece of sponge inside it moistened with distilled water. Voila, a poor man's humidor. It won't impress the CA crowd, but it'll work. If you're really lazy, go to your local cigar store and buy a humi pouch or two.

Tupperware or a cooler to make a coolerdor. Buy some "wet" florist foam from a craft store and distilled H2O to make a humidifier. Close up your container with the humidifier in it and VOILA!

Two possible solutions here .... one, send me the overflow that won't fit in your humi's ... I'll take good care of them.

two, not as good a solution, IMO, but you might like it better: go to the picture board ... look at the fairly recent pics of CWilhelmi's coolerador and at Rickamaven's sweaterboxador ... poles apart in many ways, but both very functional and both will give you good idea for how you can accomplish the same results ... I've got a large "storagecontainerador" that I turned into a functional humi ... it holds about 600 smokes ... cost me less than $20 and if I'd tried harder, I could've saved enough of that $$ to buy a 5-pack ... fancy? nope ... it's pretty much like Ricks sweater box on steroids, and not at all nice like CW's nice cooler unit, but you know what ??? ... it works and that's what you need right now ... poly bags will work OK until you get it put together, so don't hit the panic button too quick ...

You guys are great.

Steve, I am sorry to say that I think solution number 2 is the one for me. Not that I don't appreciate the offer of solution number 1, but I am sure you understand.

I have seen the coolerador and have a question about that now...Where do I get my own cedar? Or does that matter. I saw a comment expressing concern about a plastic effect on the cigars. Is that a concern I need to have?

I picked up my cedar at a Woodcrafts store. They came in small strips but work well. I converted an old end table into a humi for boxes. Plastic is not a problem.
The cedar will eliminate most of the new plastic odor.

It sounds like you're looking for a short term solution till you can bring your storage space up to snuff with a new humador. If you leave the cigars in a dark spot they should be okay for a week till you get a new box. If you made box purchases just leave them in original packaging. If you continue to frequent Cbid then by all means your gonna need a bigger setup because IT IS SO EASY TO GET CARRIED AWAY!
Welcome

To store my boxes of cigars I am using a ten gallon, long aquarium ($8). I sealed the plastic top that covers the edge of the glass with some silicone seal so it would have a tight seal to the glass ($1.50). I then cut a piece of Plexiglas to fit inside the grove for the plastic top ($3). For humidification I am using a piece of the florist block ($2) on each end with some PG solution ($5). I can store about ten boxes of cigars for a cost of around $20 with tax, and it does not look too bad.

2 gallon rudermaid container, you can probably leave them in here without a humidifier for a month or more as long as they are about 65-70% now.

Spanish cedar, where to find?I got turned on to this woodfinder site the other day.AWESOME!
