https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewsolender/2020/08/10/diddy-charlamagne-tha-god-and-other-black-male-leaders-tell-biden-to-pick-black-vp/

On the cusp of former Vice President Joe Biden’s vice presidential announcement, a group of “over 100 Black male leaders” – including rapper Diddy, TV personality Charlamagne Tha God, attorneys Ben Crump and Bakari Sellers and commentator Van Jones – penned a letter demanding he pick a black woman as his running mate.

KEY FACTS
The letter asserts that the urgency for Biden to pick a black woman has “gone from something that SHOULD happen to something that HAS to happen.”

“For too long, Black women have been asked to do everything from rally the troops to risk their lives for the Democratic Party with no acknowledgement, no respect, no visibility and certainly not enough support,” it continues.

The signers also declare their solidarity with a group of over 700 Black women who penned an open letter on Friday decrying “relentless attacks” on Black women being vetted for VP and stating “the time for Black women in the United States is now.”

“Failing to select a Black woman in 2020 means you will lose the election,” the Black males’ letter claims.

The signers conclude, “We don’t want to choose between the lesser of two evils and we don’t want to vote for the devil we know versus the devil we don’t because we are tired of voting for devils–period.”

KEY BACKGROUND
Biden pledged to pick a woman in March, and his shortlist is rumored to include governors, members of Congress, mayors and even state legislators. Biden has faced mounting pressure to pick one of the women of color on his list – including Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), National Security Advisor Susan Rice, Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Rep. Val Demings (D-Fla.), Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. Those calls grew louder in the aftermath of the George Floyd protests, which ignited a national debate over race and policing.

CRUCIAL QUOTE
Biden has frequently said his top criteria for a running mate were being “simpatico with me, both in terms of personality as well as substance,” and the ability to govern if Biden, 78, were unable to perform the duties of president.

CHIEF CRITIC
Some on Twitter noted that one of the letter’s signers is Nick Cannon, a comedian who said Saturday he would vote for Kanye West.

TANGENT
The new letter follows another letter from a group of women in politics called We Have Her Back on Friday calling on media outlets to give fair treatment to the eventual nominee and avoid “stereotypes and tropes” in their reporting. “We believe it is your job to, not just pay attention to these stereotypes, but to actively work to be anti-racist and anti-sexist in your coverage (ie: equal) as this political season progresses and this presidential ticket is introduced,” the letter states.

Hopefully, he'll be able to decide on his own.
But, he cannot win without black support and votes.

Thankfully black people are so non-diverse that if he gets one black vote he'll get them all...

If black people don’t vote for him, they ain’t black. He doesn’t need to pick a black woman VP.

Rich old white mainstream Democrat career politician racist. I find it hysterical how obvious it is and yet the Democrats are stuck with him.

No, no, no... Donald Trump said some of the people sneaking across the border are rapists and 30 years ago he called for the death penalty against some black kids that he thought were guilty of a heinous crime....

Donald Trump is the racist and he must be removed by any means necessary... even if it means voting in a racist pedophile... full stop... don't @ me...

black racists won't have much impact on this country...just not enough of them...certainly not in positions of wealth and power...that market's been cornered...

not sure if that letter will change any white voter's mind...nor will it cause every black person to vote for Biden if he does choose a black female running mate...

We already addressed that there are other specific actions, policies and words trump has used. Sticking your head in the sand and pretending those are the only two things is nonsense.

Somewhere deep in my gut, near my duodenum, I have a sneaking suspicion that Biden plans to, if elected, step down at some point and anoint the U.S.'s first ever black and female president.

I honestly don't think he intends to serve four year, let alone the prospect of having to serve for eight (likely the D's presumptive 2024 pick if he wins in 2020).

There is a school of thought which suggests minorities are not technically "racist". That the idea of "racism" requires social structure to reinforce your prejudices. So in the US, a prejudiced white person from Georgia (sorry... redundant there) would be racist. A prejudiced black person would not. In Japan, a prejudiced Japanese person could be racist towards blacks/whites etc, but that same person's actions/words/opinions would be just prejudice in the US. Without the power of the society you are in supporting your prejudiced views, they are essentially more harmful to you than they are to anyone around you.

Given that the term "racist" is human, specifically english in creation one needs to establish a common definition before having a conversation. Otherwise you just have lot's of nonsense.

That appears to be the arrangement. He will step down for health reasons and the VP will take over. This is why the process the DNC is going through to pick the VP is complicated. I can’t wait for the DNC to let Biden know who the pick is so we can evaluate that black female versus Trump. The important thing was Bernie was once again completely marginalized.

I'm glad he got marginalized. Dude has the second most annoying supporters. And coincidentally the second most socialist supporters.

That's not racist or sexist at all. Choose a VP based on skin color and sex... any other qualifications (or lack of) be damned!

Edit: Joe's handlers have chosen Kamala Harris...

I basically agree with that...note the reference to "wealth and power" and cornering the market...just going along with the countervailing usage ...you know...to get along...

growing up in the 50's and 60's, before the Civil Rights Act, elderly black customers at my Dad's store, who survived the segregated Jim Crow era, taught me something about shucking and jiving, to get along with whites...

cons here either deny racism exists in the US, or say it is pervasive and everybody is guilty...so, cons do not accept that definition

Of course they don't.
Which is why we have dumb arguments where both sides are speaking past each other using what are essentially different definitions of a term.

they secretly know that "power" is critical to the definition, and yet refuse to acknowledge that there is a power differential that results in societal inequities, some of which fall along racial lines

a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another.

That's the actual definition of racism... no mention of power... which is why intelligent people reject any idiotic and quite frankly racist notion that only people of a certain skin color can be racist...

The Dems always have been and always will be the party of racism. That's not to say there aren't a few good Dems and weren't a few Republicans also but the Dems take the lions share.
You can't make new definitions for racism to cover for this blindingly glaring racism. Oh wait
Identity politics. Call it that. That'll help hide the obvious racism.
The best man for the job is who I hire but I'm not racist. So if Biden can't hire the best man for the job well that sucks for Dems. Because Biden isn't even the best man for the job. If a black woman can't be the best man for the top job it's still a racist situation so rob steal kill and destroy or...

That's not the definition Merriam Webster has.

" a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race"

Which technically doesn't fit any of the cries of racism in this thread at all.
But the second definition does:

"a: a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles
b: a political or social system founded on racism"

Which highlights the power structure

My comment was in general, not specific to Harris. Joe pandered and said he'd pick a female VP. But tell me she was NOT chosen simply because she is a black female and you'd be a liar.

The "Kamala is the pick" was an edit, after I'd made the comment. You're asking me to say why she is not qualified... It is well known she slept her way to the top in CA, so her integrity is for sh*t. Now you tell me why she is qualified (and don't say because she's a black female, lol).

Based on all of the above...Then Harris was his ONLY pick. She's not Black, but she looks like it! I'm just waiting for Biden to say that to appease his brainless base into dragging themselves into the polls come November. BLM is just going to load up their buses for that!

Based on what the US already knows Biden helped write the 1994 crime bill which on it's face sounds good, but in reality is racist as hell. Don't take my word for it though...The NAACP called it “a crime against the American people.”. Biden spouts on and on about how it's his bill, he got that done here's him though "The truth is, every major crime bill since 1976 that’s come out of this Congress, every minor crime bill, has had the name of the Democratic senator from the State of Delaware: Joe Biden.”. Ok, own it Joe. It disenfranchised a whole generation of Blacks. Don't even utter the phrase "Trump is a racist" to shield your frail feelings and weak minds with facts that Biden is clearly a racist. He uses racist buzzwords when talking in public, defends known and avowed KKK members and claims them as "mentors", laughs about racist things and to this day defends himself on racist actions that he once claimed as his "achievements". This Op-Ed nailed it though.

Harris, on the other bookend of this demented kook platform has refused to address concerns and instances of police violence. I mean when you have a case where a black man is shot 21 times and you don't want to investigate that, well that makes the "I Can't Breathe" slogan laughable! She has locked up people for weed while laughing about being a casual user herself! That is just blatantly being a hypocrite, that's totally cool and someone that without question will be sitting behind the Resolute Desk. The worst of everything about her comes to light when you spotlight several instances where she knowingly withheld evidence, testimony or knew they were arresting and prosecuting the wrong guy. Yeah, she's a real keeper for the DNC! Here we have a guy that doesn't know where he is and can't form a sentence paired up with a ladder climbing political activist with worn out kneepads that will gladly use the 25th Amendment clause to remove the dolt from office and put in whatever clown the party or some shadow operative tells her to pick as her running mate. Good for you zombies! Don't dare criticize the current administration when you're going to vote for this B$ willingly. This ticket isn't an upgrade in an way, shape or fashion! Keep on with the TDS...because orangeman baaaad! Twitter told me so! Just laughable at how the DNC has completely and utterly failed America. Not a sane person on their ticket.

That’s a great story. The Democrats are just as racist as ever. It is just repackaged as concern for the downtrodden minorities that just aren’t able to compete without the Democrats and government’s generous help. It’s a very “feel good” racism.

True story, I used to think hockey dad and brewha were the same person... no idea why.... it wasn't until like a year ago I realized it was two different profiles... something to do with hockey dad's old profile pic I'd guess...

That’s a great story. The Democrats are just as racist as ever. It is just repackaged as concern for the downtrodden minorities that just aren’t able to compete without the Democrats and government’s generous help. It’s a very “feel good” racism.

It’s a tough pill to swallow. If it makes you feel any better, it’s a very noble institutional racism. It not like the old fashioned “hey there’s one of them...get a rope racism”. Now it’s a “hey there’s one of them...let’s get them Section 8 housing for life and they’ll vote for us forever”. You walk away feeling good and can pat yourself on the back.
