Tough day all the way around getting a fix yesterday. I wanted to try something new because I'm always looking for that new hit. So I grabbed a La Palina Bronze Label from a 5 pack I picked up from my source a while back. It seemed like a decent cigar insofar as I could taste it, but it was too mild. So I let it go out.

Still jonesing, and still wanting something new, I torched an AB Maxx I scored from a sampler pack. Same thing. The cigar seemed like a quality cigar, but just too mild. So I let it go out. Why don't they work anymore?

Frustrated, needing to feel that rush, I grabbed a JdN Antoño that had been sitting in my humidor for years. When I first got these, they were too strong for me. They were for the hardcore types who smoked too much and let themselves go. Yesterday? Medium at best. I know they've mellowed over the years; that was the point of leaving them in there, but I wouldn't think they would mellow that much. Is it me or the cigars? So I let it go out.

I grabbed an Ave Maria Argentum. Getting there, but I needed more. I finished it, then, grabbed a Diesel Unholy Cocktail. Finally, the craving subsided. Is this what I've come to? Sitting alone in the cold, chain smoking cigars looking to recapture that first time? Smoking Diesel!?

Maybe it was the delicious Marie Sharp's hot sauce I'd just put on my pizza? Either that, or my flavor receptors are shot. All three of them. I know I've come to like stronger stuff, but Antoño letting me down? Leaving me wanting more? I think I'm going to give my taste buds a rest for a few days. As soon as I smoke one more cigar.

Don't worry we've all been through this..........one day you will wake up and this will be over.I went through it years ago.......only an LFD DL 452 would satisfy, then over a few years I ended gravitating back to mediums and enjoying them more than I had any other cigars EVAH.One a day or even a week more than satisfies.I'm smoking a "The Tabernacle" from Brother Palama as I type this........I like the smoke but way stronger than my norm these days.I know guys in the same boat and the Fuente's that I love so much they just don't get.......................we'll revisit this together in a few years and I assure things will have changed.

You can thank me later.........BTW now I know where to offload a few of my stronger sticks since I owe you anyway.

Ditto. I noticed my change in strength preference a couple years ago. I don’t mind a good med-full every now and then but definitely not on a regular basis anymore.

You don't owe me anything Ron, and I do not need cigars. I have more than I should have now. My wife, who is actually very indulgent of my hobby, has started using words like "compulsive" to describe my order disorder.

But Fuentes are a good example. They do nothing for me. I can see why other people might like them. They're well-made, consistent cigars and all, but flavorwise, they are too subtle for me. Always have been. I smoke one every once in a while to see if my tastes have changed, want to be open-minded and all, but still nothing. Same with other stuff they make like Ashton, even the supposedly "strong" ones. (except for Opus)

I think I am going through this right now to be honest, the change from med/full to med. I used to be a Tat lover and a anything that had strength to it. Over the last couple years I have noticed that I reach for them much less now. I never understood the love for cc until my taste started to change. Currently, I reach for cc probably 85% of the time. I heard of it going other way as well, start off on milds and evolving to fulls.

I still love my Tat's,especially the Miami Especiales and 7th's, but I don't care for some of their stronger offerings.Hell I'll still smoke an LFD DL 452 occasionally....................but I used to go thru a half dozen or more boxes/bundles a year

Probably time to take a break.
One week minimum, two would be better.

Great advise. I have been smoking 2-3 each day for months on end. Amazing what a difference taking a few days off makes in the same cigar.

I have been through the med-full-med a few times. A few good Koobans have ruined a preference for spicy Nic more than once.

I limit myself to one cigar a day. I very rarely smoke more.
I also try not to smoke during the weekdays, but that doesn't always work out.
Especially since work has slowed down so much, more off time than on, so I'm puffing just out of boredom.
It's true, when I die of cancer, it'll be covid that killed me.
