Asparagus sucks... so do green beans... okra can die a tortuous death in the bowels of hades...

Long live onions! Viva le bell pepper! God save the tomatoes!

I agree with you on Okra. I like asparagus and green beans.

Bell peppers are great... if they're not green.

Meh...I like all 3.

Don't even know how you have gumbo without okra.

Green beans with garlic, bacon and Montreal steak seasoning...mmmm

Asparagus with a steak...

I'm with MACS on this mostly. What's wrong with green peppers? They are the same thing as other colored ones it's just that the non-greens were left on the plant longer.

(leave it to MACS and his racist tendencies to differentiate between the flesh color of bell peppers).

LOL

we've discussed it on the vherf a number of times and it came up again last night... as a community, we have politically discussed our way out of new Forum members, and that's to our shame...

If I have to smoke a little extra pot in order to add some lightheartedness to this once-great forum, well then I guess that's just the sacrifice I'll have to make...

Ima get started right now... well I technically started like 20 minutes ago, but I'm gonna sacrifice a little more...

Sometimes I let em turn colors, but I like the green ones... bull horns are a really good green pepper... not technically a bell but same taste...

Green peppers ain't ripe... which is why the others are left on longer - to ripen.

I don't dislike the taste, really, I dislike that they make me burp and bring back that taste repeatedly.

Life pro tip: get a potato peeler (get your wife to get a potato peeler) and peel the outside... the skin is what does that, not the flesh...

Agree, I too get the burps from peppers but they are part of basic trilogy to start many dishes: onion, pepper, garlic, (addition of celery too but celery often gets a bad rap by many people).

Green bell peppers = kryptonite, there is something in green bell peppers that makes me literally sick. Even small amounts hidden in the "various spices" of products like some Ranch flavor salad dressings are toxic to me. Other peppers are no problem, ripe or green.

Okra in stews or soup is OK, pickled okra is delicious, steamed or fried, BARF!

Celery dipped in ranch... yup. Celery dipped in peanut butter... yup. As part of mirepoix... yup.

I like celery... and I think I read that it is catabolic. Burn more calories digesting it than it actually gives you... unless you dip it in ranch or peanut butter. Anxious

Lots of fiber in celery too. Also works as a natural teeth flosser. A benefit is lost on whistle. No teef = no reason to floss... Or was it, no reason to floss led to no teef. Chicken and egg thingy, I guess.

Agreed on asparagus and okra.

Green beans are ok. Non green bell peppers I like. Green bell peppers I tolerate.

Brussels sprouts and Lima beans can go to hell

Allergic to celery... not deadly allergic at the moment, but age and exposure could change that... carrots too... and a bunch of fruits that I love like bananas and watermelon and avocado...

You guys get the old man hiccups from cooked green peppers or is it just the raw ones?

By "dipped" I assume you mean "spread"... also assuming you put a row of raisins on top... and I don't know what mirepoix means but I'm assuming it's French for "ants on a log"... and I approve...

Mirepoix is, indeed, French. I think it means flavor base or some such nonsense. It's diced onions, carrots, and celery cooked over low heat in butter or oil or a mixture of butter and oil.

Boiled okra and spinach, it's dangerous
Fishy fish with a thousand bones, cooked in asparagus
I'd rather eat boogers than black-eyed peas
I'd trade it all for a hamburger or a pizza with double cheese
No anchovies, no pepperonis and no mushrooms
No black olives or any other rabbit food
I've got an idea that's bound to work
You finish the spinach and the
Black-eyed peas then I'll go get dessert
Ice cream or maybe a refrigerated candy bar
I'd scream with joy for a little piece of cake

I've never heard of these things until I moved to MA. I'm told that they are awesome but I still have not eaten any.

Another (rather) new one for me that I've probably passed by numerous times on a walk through the woods is Hen of the Woods mushrooms which I understand is excellent eating (I don't like mushrooms though). A buddy of mine hunts them and sells them at a local farmers market.

Baked stuffed bell pepper...(stuff'n with whatever you want), make a tasty treat.

Does anyone else like caperberries? They come from the same bush as capers, un-opened flower buds, caperberries are the fruit of the same plant. Shaped a little like a green olive, but they have a mild pepper-like flavor.

1) Can’t make gumbo without okra.
2) Trinity = onions, celery & bell peppers.
3) Do they really grow enough garlic?
4) Mirlitons stuffed with shrimp and/or crab dressing is to die for.
5) Yet to eat a variety of potato I didn’t like.
6) Love steamed asparagus; grilled not so much.
7) I make a damn fine guacamole.
8) Green beans sautéed in butter with onions and mushrooms goes well with spaghetti and meatballs.
9) Creamed spinach is great any day any time.
10) Really can’t think of veggie I’ve ever tried that I didn’t like. The preparation may have sucked sweaty ballsacs though.

prolly the only things that grow off chit and dead chit.

mushroom farmers (that's a joke right there) never need pesticides...cuz insects won't eat 'em either.
They just throw chit in a hut, close the door, and voila! A crop emerges.
And some idiots eat it.

I can't think of a vegetable I don't like. Never had okra though, so I am not sure on that one. We had a huge garden growing up and grew tons of stuff, so eating it fresh probably made me really like most of it.

My four year sees asparagus and yells "stinky pee!!"...
