Equals the gallons or diesel and DEF I have purchased through my company this year to move my truck down the road delivering food.

At an estimated average of about $5 a gallon that’s around $107,000.

Since diesel is used at every step in the farm to table process this should shed a little light on shelf prices.

And how is the gas mileage on an average load?
Say one is through the mountains for 500 miles, vs a Great Plains run of the same distance?

Since getting a diesel pickup I notice fuel stations with semi truck access charge more per gallon, probably because they can and maybe a little more to pay for a larger facility, but it looks like a ripoff to me. They do charge less for DEF though.

Most truck stops here charge less for DEF out of a pump but NOT in the store by the gallon.

Considering that the Earth is flat, wouldn't it be a wash? ...well until you drove off the edge...

Probability because they have a captive market. I’m sure the larger footprint is easily offset by the volume of product sold. When on the road I purchase at least 80 gallons of diesel EVERY day.

Next time you’re at a truck stop count the number of 12,000 gallon above ground storage tanks you see. Then take a look around and see if you see a tanker truck. I usually see at least one refilling tanks every time I stop regardless of the time.

Wouldn’t know. A full DEF tank on my truck is good for about 3 days or about 2,200 miles. I think my tank is around 25 gallons. I fill it everyday regardless of remaining volume. That way if I hit a stop without DEF at the pump it’s no big deal. I just add more the next day.

FWI on a full day of OTR driving from point A to point B with no scheduled stops I usually drive about 750 miles in an 11 drive shift. On these days I’ll burn through 100 gallons of diesel in my tractor, 7 gallons of DEF and another 13 or so gallons of diesel in my reefer fuel tank.
