Now might be a good time to bump up a little on your 401(k), IRA, Roth if you are investing for the long term and if you have some extra $ in reserve... dollar cost averaging.

When will it bottom out? Nobody knows... but time in the market beats trying to time the market. My kids will live longer then me (God willing) so I'll kick in some more on their UTMA accounts (shhh.... they don't know that they have them... at 21 it turns over to them as full authority but gonna try to find away to hide until they are like 25 or so)

We've been kicking the can down the road for over a decade or so. The COVID crash was not anything anyone could predict but we bounced back with and influx of free money printed by the powers that be.

A recession was inevitable even without it. Interest rates have been at an all time low for over a decade. The free money that we printed and gave away during the COVID fiasco tipped the scales and now it's time to pay the piper.

I think there is some stormy times ahead. I'm not an economist or an investment professional. It's very likely that I don't know what I'm talking about but I don't think it's going to be rainbows and roses for the next few years.

If they do, the US government has shown that it will backstop all of the losses.

Recession is measured by the economy's GNP/GDP. We have record low unemployment and wage growth. High interest rates do not measure recession, but may be a component of it. The economy goes up and down with time and national/international events. Not saying we are or aren't in a recession right now, but I do beleive we will see one soon, in part due to the 0% Fed and Treasury were pushing.

Joke: It is a recession when you lose your job. It is a depression when I lose mine.

Any banker dealing with any type of securities or bonds KNOWS bond prices (cash value) fall when interest rates go up. None of this should come as a surprise to any bank invested in bonds or Treasury Notes.

For the past decade or so we've had historically low interest rates.

Typically when stocks zig, bonds zag and should be rather uncorrelated. With perfect storm we are in of both rising interest rates and rising inflation, both sides have been kicked in the nuts.

It's been an usual market the past year or so and the winds of change are on the horizon.

Will interest rates get to the level of the late 70's early 80's... hopefully not. Hopefully we learned the lessons from Paul Volcker's screw up stint running the Fed Reserve back then.

Bought a motorcycle in 1981. Loan for $1,500 @ 16.5% interest. Put a lot more thought into the bike than the interest rate at the time.

When I bought my house in 2000 I had an 8.5% interest rate. As soon as rates fell I refinanced to 5%, then when I could do so again... went down to 3%.

I really don't think you can find any home loans for less than 5-6% right now. Frying pan

More like 6+%. We got spoiled rotten, but I am locked in at 3% from a refinance 2+ years ago! Nevertheless, higher rates suck!ram27bat
