My stepmom retired from our local VA……

She hated dealing with them for my dad and her dad (my bonus grandpa). They were ok with hearing aides, and past that it was like pulling teeth.

Good luck sir.

I'm sorry you are being treated poorly, All vets deserve better treatment.

I can only assume it is a different experience office to office as my family both blood and by marriage have had mostly positive experience over the last several years in both MD and Florida.

Had excellent experience with the VA in San Diego area. Also good experience with Tricare over there.

Here in Jax Tricare blows and The VA only has a clinic near me, but it's a pain to get an appointment.

Well I posted this on the 20th and finally Yesterday a VA VSO contacted me apologizing for not catching his VM sooner, set me up an Appointment for April 3rd... Brick wall turns out we double paid on a bill and no one knows where the extra payment money's went to?? I'm bringing in copies of my original claims I filed in 2004-2007 along with a letter from the retirement reserve center dated 2007 saying they have no record of me being in the Military?? d'oh! d'oh! Brick wall
taking a copy of my DD214 also showing the date of Transfer to the inactive ready reserves in 2004...

I can only imagine this finally getting straightened out and the Backpay to follow!!! Herfing

Yep, I avoid the VA at any cost, which is pretty simple since my status as retired isn't high enough to get any service in my area. I wish Congress had to use the VA health system as their only government supported healthcare,

Not an uncommon claim, we see lots of VA guys/gals and I’ve met quite a few that were told their records didn’t exist. Story they all got was a fire at a base in Colorado that stored paper records…..

Actually had a highly decorated WW2 guy get so pissed he went to the Portland VA IN UNIFORM….It still fit (this was one of those small wiry guys you just know better than to mess with).

Hope your appointment goes well.

RRR,
This is a pain in the keister for sure. Just like my lower level management experience taught me, document, document and document.

Log every single hang up, voicemail, and answering machine message left.

What pisssses me of second most about how retired veterans get the shaft is the seem no longer interested in the physical or mental health of the retired military once your service has stopped. They don’t need you any more so you aren’t a priority.

And we wonder why enrollments in the military are down.

Sorry to hear you're having troubles.

I feel very fortunate to have a fantastic VA facility near me. The VA Palo Alto system is one of the absolute best. In contrast, my kids mother just got them signed up for Kaiser P. and my VA facility makes them look bad.

A good golf buddy of mine tried for years to get his Army VA benefits but finally gave up. No record of his service in Viet Nam.

What a shame. Even in today's digital Army, I still keep printed copies of all important docs.

Please tell your buddy I said thank you for his service. Today is Vietnam Veterans Day. Please tell him I said welcome home.

To quote a lady I met who’s husband was a Helo pilot in Nam “Be nice but don’t believe anything they tell you, and document EVERYTHING”.

Sad stuff and not how vets should be treated.
