Have any of you been to the Cigar Lounge at Finest Playa Mujeres? I'll be there in a month. From the pictures I've seen it looks like they have a Cuban selection. Any recommendations?

I'm planning to bring a bunch of my own cigars but seems like they have pretty descent selection in the Havana Cigar Lounge on the resort and I'll want to check it out so I'll be buying their cigars whenever I stop in. Looks nice. This video starts in the cigar lounge and 5 minutes in is a walk through the humidor.

Forget the lounge, wander down to the beach and make sure you grab a great deal on a glass top sampler of real Cubans.

I'm not sure I would know what real is. I was thinking it more likely I would get the real thing from 5 star resort cigar lounge. Probably pricey too but it's vacation. Here are some pictures of the cigar lounge. It's supposed to be 5 stars. Looks pretty nice so I'm sure I'll hit it at least a few times.

You have a better chance of getting the real thing if you stay away from Cohibas. Maybe Trinidads nowadays. If you stick to their other regular brands like Partagas, RyJ, Punch, etc., you'll probably be fine. It's not worth as much, monetarily, to risk counterfeiting a $10-$20 cigar.

Probably.

Maybe.

I’m always happy to get counterfeit cigars when I leave the country. I always get a box of 10 “Cubans” for like 15-20 bucks.

A year ago I was at the Le Casa Del Habano in Playa del Carmen. Small place on a busy street and nobody was in when I arrived. They had only Cubans and only a few smaller cigars were under $30/stick. It was like $70 for a Partagas Lusitania. Besides that, every building you pass has someone running out to try to sell you something. Mexico is not gonna be a source of cheap Cubans except for those counterfeits sold on the beach. Personally, I'd treat myself to some super nice cigars from the DR, Honduras or Nicaragua and convince myself that they are Cuban and you'll still be saving money. If you want some expensive cigars as a treat, I'll sell you some Macassar for MSRP. Enjoy your trip regardless of what you choose to do.

I'm just going to bring my own cigars and buy them as I go in the cigar lounge using Lee's advice. I don't plan on leaving the resort. According to customs I can bring 25 cigars with me, but a cutter and torch seem like they may be a problem on the plane. Any advice?

Cutters/torches are not allowed. They will for sure take them Iif they see em.
Last time I flew I put them in my checked luggage & had 0 issues. When I went through TSA they asked to look in my 40 count traveldor.
I opened it for them and lifted the upper layer out so they could see below. They said thanks and I was on my way.

Yup, checked luggage has always worked for me too although I've generally left my lighters at home and just bought a cheapie Bic upon arrival from the hotel gift shop.

Someone, I forget who, suggested that you put your lighter in your wife's makeup bag but I have yet to try that one.

Many years ago when I vacationed often in Cancun, we bought a couple of H.Upman cubans at a cigar shop. They were fakes. From then on I bought Cubans only thru the resort store and they were the real thing. You can bring a few back with you as customs is only interested in people bringing back boxes.

Checked is my go to. That said, I took a trip where I only had carry-on. I wasn't expecting to make it through, but gave it a shot. Cheapie torch and plastic, single blade guillotine cutter.

They took the torch and left me the cutter. This confuses me. Was it because it was enclosed maybe? IDK. Further befuddling me was that they let me keep my BIC. What's the difference? Isn't the butane contained under pressure in both types? I would've thought explosion concern was the same for both

Only two things certain in Mexico.

1. All nice resorts sell only real cubans
2. There is no corruption in Mexico

Don't buy cigars in Mexico. Taxes on cigars make them double the price against what you can purchase them here. Counterfeits are just as prevalent in fancy resorts as those on the beach. New Mexican laws forbid smoking on the beaches and the Federales' can't wait to fine tourists.

There was sarcasm in DED's statement, Husker Du. The emoji may have been missing, but the sarcasm was there nonetheless

So I'm back, there was a selection of Cubans but very expensive. I'm glad I brought my own cigars. The Cuban Cohibas were over $100 per cigar and AF were $30 for cigars I normally pay less than $10 for in the states. If you plan on going, bring your own cigars. The resort was fantastic, and I definitely will go back. The food and everything else were fantastic. This place was great but bring your own cigars or prepare to pay high prices.
