To help MCBFA, the “Ironclad Resolution Contest” is now being presented.

The contest is basically a block pool revolving around Delta’s claim that he is going to STOP buying cigars for a w-h-o-l-e year! Will he or won’t he? Does he have the fortitude to stick to his promise to NOT buy any cigars for 366 days? We shall see.

The Basic Rules:

1. Contest / Pool runs from May 1, 2023 to April 20, 2024.

2. Entries end Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 11:59 pm EST

3. Must be an active member of the Forum for at least 6 months. “Active” = combination of posts, trades, splits, PIBs, etc. that member participates in.
A. If not active or less than 6 months as a CBid member then a vet or “trusted” Forum member must vouch for that person. I will determine trustworthiness.
B. If no one vouches for that person then approved ante must be sent upfront.

4. In all matters, I will make the ultimate decision(s).

Mechanics:

A. Up to 12 entries per person, 1 premium cigar per entry. If you have to ask what’s a “premium” cigar then this may not be the contest for you. However, to help make things a bit easier, for this contest, the following cigar brands are NOT acceptable as “premium” - Alec Bradley, CI, Gurkha, La Perla, Rocky Patel, Victor Sinclair and any flavored cigars.

1). Option - pick a particular date - cost will be 2 SUPER premium cigars per date. If you have to ask what’s a “SUPER Premium?” then this may not be the option for you. If multiple players pick the same date, they will equally share the pot. Limit is 12 entries and will count towards your overall picks.

B. Random drawing for dates (“squares”) not already selected. One date per entry. Players will be notified of their dates. Delta will NOT be privy to who has what dates. Players must pledge an oath of secrecy.

C. Delta wins if he sticks to his ironclad resolution and refrains from buying any cigars during the contest period. If he succumbs and buys, directly or indirectly, any cigars, then the person that has the exact date that Delta puts in an order or agrees to buy is the winner. Cigars acquired through gifts, PIBs, trades, and box passes are not considered to be “bought”. If no one has the exact date then the player closest will win. If two people are equal days apart then they will split the pot. All players (…other than those that sent their cigars to me…) must send their antes to the winner(s) by May 15, 2024.

PM me your interest in the contest as well as your cell phone number.

Edit: One more betting option - Delta makes it all the way through - this entry will cost two Premiums AND two SUPER Premiums. The pot will be split between Al and anyone that choses this option.

I'm hoping this contest will lead to CBidders posting up sweet deals for everybody's benefit...guys can load up on great deals while I'm being baited, enticed, teased and tortured... unable to take advantage.

I've got a few more days to go before I have to turn the faucet off...

So, let's say hypothetically, sometime in early May, I happen to be looking to thin my collection slightly, at greatly reduced rates. How might that play into this here contest? It would technically be a purchase

Yup, it would be a purchase and therefore break Delta’s resolution.

Blah, blah, blah... (cut out the stuff that doesn't apply to my question to get to the part of the clause that is applicable to my question).

If someone set up a Go Fund Me site and Delta contributed to the site and, in turn, the sponsor sent Delta a thank you gift in the form of cigars... would that violate the rules?

A Cbid money laundering operation.

3 more days and counting down...have no urge to splurge before my spending habits are purged...

Thought about it and checked out a few deals, but I've grown weary of trying to create space and absolutely refuse to buy any more storage containers...

I've toyed with the idea of going on a smoking hiatus for a few days/weeks to kick off the Ironclad Resolution Pool...it's been several months since I skipped a day, and that was due to a tooth extraction...

Conan, how many people are in the pool. We need to make sure this is going to be worth delta's while.

Unfortunately due to the lack of entrants, the contest has been cancelled.

Oh well.... Huh

Delta, you are free to buy as many (...or as little...) cigars as you please. Herfing

If I remember correctly, my bet was that the contest would be cancelled for lack of entrants. I think I won!

I’ll have to double check my records but like one of Pavlov’s dogs, it does ring a bell 🔔 and you may be correct. If so, gather up your ante cigars, put them in a SFR and then mail it to yourself by the 15th. Laugh

I still resolve to follow through with my Ironclad Resolution and refrain from buying any cigars until April 30, 2024! Have to prove my cigar addiction doesn't own me...

otoh, I've been fighting a chest and sinus cold the past few days and knew that I should stop smoking until it cleared...I cut back to one a day...
