Good morning 500 folks!

Just installed a cold air intake on my Tacoma. Allegedly it will improve my HP and mpg by a tiny bit, but most importantly it makes it sound fun when I press the gas pedal (which will likely make the MPG improvement bill.

didnt someone just post about putting a new cold air intake on their tacoma like a week ago, or am i trippin lol

Sunday!!!

Short bit of laps with my wife in about 1 houri from now.

Went down to Boca Raton Friday night and came home yesterday at 7:30. Rained hard the whole way down and it took us 45 extra minutes to get there. Thakfully, no rain on the way home. Helped daughter and fiance move in to their new apartment. It is very nice and I anm happy for them.

Watching Northwestern v. Rutgers right now.

Enjoy your day!

Unless you also do the exhaust, and then have it tuned for the new intake/exhaust it will do exactly nothing but make you feel good and decrease your bank account.

Sorry... them are the facts.

Reminds me of the back-in-the-day performance “improvements” for muscle cars. Some real / significant, most theoretical but said with authority that it sounded real. Iirc, headers were supposed to increase power by 10% by improving airflow since each cylinder had its own manifold exhaust tube and collector box was larger than standard exhaust connection. After I had headers installed on my Road Runner, I don’t know for a fact that it improved my quarter mile time since I also made other changes but my car did sound sweeter with them.

All moved in at the new place now gotta unpack the $hit. When you pack and move you realize how much crap you've collected over the years. For example I have computer parts older then my kids. Normal people don't have 6 extra computer keyboards and 12 extra hard drives. I'm not a normal person and that's just a sample of computer stuff in boxes. Eventually the extra stuff will get put away, donated, or thrown away. It's not happening tonight though, I'll dig into that stuff tomorrow.

Took the son to Walmart (still have some connections there) and he was pretty much hired on the spot for a part time job doing on line shopping stuff at night (4-9 PM, about 25 hrs a week) while doing his first year in college during the day. Told him that I'd help him land a local part time job to pay his car insurance, gas money and spending money. Nothing is free in this world. Walmart is good for kids that go to school, they'll accommodate your availability and school schedules.

On a different topic, I'm watching a documentary on Randy Rhodes. I didn't realize that he was a founding member of Quiet Riot before he joined Ozzy Osbourne.

Yup, I’m aware. Exhaust is tbd and tune up is in the future.

I also made this purchase with the knowledge that it would make me feel good and decrease my bank account. Haha

Not always true with modern fuel injection. Carburetor engines yes, early fuel injection relied on manifold pressures, intake temperature, throttle position to make minor adjustments to fuel and timing. More modern FI started using mass airflow sensors and feedback loops from downstream o2 sensors to give better feedback to the ecu to adjust fuel and timing.without going in to manually adjust the maps. Newest gen is a little finicky depending on things but most cars I've played with can "autotune" for basic intake/exhaust but may require some electronic fvckery because they hold tighter parameters. But for the most part you should be able to slap em on and it'll adjust. Whether or not you get any kind of gain other than fun noises is unlikely. My friend who tunes cars for a living is always posting stock vs aftermarket dyno comparisons and it's pretty rare to see any substantial gains from those modifications alone. But... They're more fun I love a tubular intake. The intake noise is better than exhaust noise. I've been looking for a used intake tube for my Ridgeline. Not willing to spend $300 for noise.

Got an open box special for the cold air intake. It was 150 down from 200. Went with Specter instead of K&N because specter had solid reviews. Personally, if I only get a fun noise from it, it is worth about that much to me. I was going to get a muffler instead, but with a 2.4L I’d run the risk of my truck sounding less like a V6 (which was the goal) and more like an angry bumble bee

I put a cold air intake and a stillen exhaust on a 2004 G35 and noticed no difference except the cool sound and a good lookin' engine bay. lol

As far as the "self adjusting", yeah... minor. You want the full effect, take it in for the tune.

One place we are going has been having problems with bears but no baby seals. Gots ta dig out some flannels which I haven't worn in years and a raincoat. Temps should be about 50/60 range but we are planning a small plane flight over Denali range which might be pretty chilly.

Took the '65 out for a 20 mile romp around town after my 5 miler. Nice morning with almost no traffic.

I've never been to Alaska. I wouldn't mind visiting.

A couple of friends back when I was in college would go there and work at the fisheries/canning places during the summer. 12-14 hrs a day with fish guts and stuff ankle high 7 days a week. They would work, sleep, work, sleep. As described to me it was like military barracks living arrangement. Room and board was paid for by the fishing/canning company. They got two weeks off (not consecutively) during the summer and would rent a plane to view the wildlife and get dropped off somewhere to camp and hike then the plane would come back to pick them up a week later.

They worked their asses off all summer and was able to see stuff I'll likely never see. They came back to school in the fall with enough money to cover tuition and living expenses for a year. Overall, they seemed to enjoy the experience enough that they did it for a couple of years.

Youth has some benefits.

Seventy NINE!

Had to talk her innto it because she was floating on a raft in our pool and didn't want to go. Going to just hange for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Both glad we did,Maybe there is a live college footbal game on? I doubt it...

I had smoked brisket for dinner. It's delicious... and I'm gonna eat more tomorrow. Took some to my neighbor, he said "Is that brisket?", I said yep... and his 10 year old son started dancing. Kid loves my brisket.

Misplaced my e-bike battery charger. It's probably in one of the boxes somewhere but I haven't found it yet. Gonna have to order a new one. I also don't know where the key is to unlock the battery from the bike. Gonna have to call a locksmith and get the lock picked and (hopefully) they can make me a new key. First world problems. I'm pretty sure I'll survive.

Exhausted after work this morning didn't even shower just straight to bed.

Wife woke me around 4 to go swimming. Kinda cold but parents are closing the pool tomorrow so it was our last chance.

Might go to work tomorrow for some easy overtime. Got a nurse on her last night of orientation, so she'd do all the work, I just would supervise.

Bucky, you could just peddle that bike, right?

I could peddle the e-bike but the thing is heavy. The battery alone probably weighs around 10 lbs and it's locked to the frame until I call the locksmith to pick the lock. My town is very hilly so going down hill is no problem, it's pumping uphill that knocks the wind out of you.

I also have a regular peddle bike. Aluminum frame mountain/trail bike and it weighs at least half as much as the e-bike. I lent it out to a neighbor kid this summer and he screwed up the derailleurs so I'll have to take it to the local bike shop for a tune up.

I did find the e-bike battery charger tonight. It was right there where I put it last... right next to the mountain bike so I wouldn't forget it (duh, you idiot! forehead slap!) A replacement charger on is on order. Expected delivery date is by the end of the week. I guess I could try to cancel it but it's only 20 or 30 bucks. Not worth the hassle. Plus, in case I forget where I put it again (in another logical place) I'll have a spare one.

Calling for tropical heat and humidity this week and I'm not looking forward to it.
