+1

When our kids were learning to drive, I always made them back into our garage. Years later our daughter told me she was surprised that many of her friends were terrible at backing into spaces as well as parallel parking.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

It is statistically proven that driving away from a parked position is safer than backing up. I learned this years ago when configuring fleet tracking software. Drivers get points taken away when they back up from a parked position same as when speeding.

safer to back in park. period... i do it whenever possible. and will continue to do so. It takes no more effort, unless you are a crappy driver that doesn't know how to back up. and wasting the time of others that are parking head in is not my concern... if they parked correctly by backing in it wouldn't be an issue.

I back in or pull through so I leave in drive, not reverse.

Macs got it right. If the parking lot has angled spots, nose in back out. Otherwise back in pull out. Or pull through to nose out

Jones is correct.
It's easier to back out of a parking space, turn the wheel and drive away, than it is to back into a space.
And to his point missed by others, you wouldn't inconvenience the drivers behind you also looking for a space in which to park.
It's about being considerate to others, not proving testosterone levels.

Sorry, Frankie... Danm has spoken and I got it right. Angled, pull in. Straight, back in. You can do so AND give due consideration to your fellow drivers.

Keep on truckin' sucka...

Damn did get one thing correct...

Just one...

Which I do quite frequently when possible...

A double open inline space , I pull in head first but continue on to the next space so I can pull out straight in drive....

I agree wholeheartedly with that statement...

Really it all just depends on what I am doing. If I go to Costco or Home Depot, where I know I will need access to the truck bed... I pull in so it's easy to put stuff in the back.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death in the US—resulting in nearly 37,000 fatalities during a four-year period to end the last decade. Fatal crashes, collisions, and rollover incidents put drivers at risk and ramp-up employer costs.

Companies instituting safe vehicle policies, such as driver safety training and global positioning systems to monitor vehicles, are better prepared to protect employees and avoid accidents. The best place to start is in the parking lot.

First-Move-Forward

When ready to park, employees should use the First-Move-Forward policy—instead of pulling in, a driver backs into a parking space. When ready to leave, drivers pull out facing forward for better visibility to spot oncoming cars or pedestrians.

This small yet effective change saves lives. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that approximately 12,000 pedestrians were injured and nearly killed by cars backing up in 2015.

Jonsie are you recognized as an award winning safe driver who undergoes quarterly testing? When you are, get back to me.

Safety is considerate. Avoidable accidents are not.

Frank knows better he’s just being nice, bless his heart.

I'm confused. It's the same 3 points and same changing gears twice whether you pull in or backward. If you pull in forward you're saving the hard part for last, backward you do it first. Takes the same time and effort regardless of order. Also u end up waiting for just as many ppl to back out as u do to back in. Actually u wait for more to back out as most park in but u see my point.

The parking lot at work is tight. It's a multi point turn to nose into a space but I can back in on one shot.

Macs did hit another point. If im somewhere I'll be loading the bed on my truck, I nose in back out. I was thinking mostly of parking at work. At home my driveway is 3 cars wide so I just turn around in the driveway. At work back in or pull through.
