Disclaimer: There was a time I was a huge fan of my “local” team. Now I couldn’t care less about watching an NFL game.

In another money grab by the NFL worked out a deal with NBC for $110,000,000 to stream ONE game on Peacock. The NFL has other single game deals with Amazon-Prime and YouTube. How long before one will have to pay a subscription or other fee to watch any professional football game?

I’m truly amazed by the amount of money one would shuck out to watch a game.

According to an article in USA Today published on 09/23/2023 the average price of an NFL game ticket is $377. The cost to park ranges are $15-$100. A beer is $6-$12.

So for 2 people to attend a game and have a couple beers it will cost about:
$754 for tickets
$36 2 beers each
$57 to park
$847 total

On top of that the public has spent $4B since 2000 financing stadiums through mostly tax-exempt bonds.

All of this begs the question, “When is enough enough”?

It’s hard for me to wrap my head around being a fan. I mean, $847 for 2 people to go to a single game? Then the taxpayers paying for their stadiums. All so multi-billionaire owners can keep growing their wealth. Or so multimillionaire players can take a knee and protest the country that provided them the opportunity to become multimillionaires.

I for one DGAF anymore. I’m glad they are streaming the game on a pay channel. That way I do t have to watch one pay as I’m channel surfing. For the same reasons I stay out of sports bars on Sunday. College football it seems is not far behind.

Beers are more like $16-18 at most stadiums.

When the sniveling kneelers did what they did to all major sports except Hockey...F@CK THEM! They took a knee, I took a walk. NEVER coming back. I don't devote hours watching a game, following Sports or any of the other insanity (looking back in hindsight...jeez...take you own life back!) of watching ESPN (a Disney company that has promised to devolve more LGBTQFUCKITALLUP+-~) or looking at boxscores. Screw em. They've become laughable as the WWE at this point. Scripted crap. Injuries to feel sorry about. Good for anyone following it, but do us a favor and die your hair green or purple so we all know!

Saw a video clip of Charles Barkley being asked about the Wild Card game on Pee-co-ck

“They’re greedy little pigs”

Yup.

What sucks is I have Peacock, but the game was on the premium version which is a higher priced tier. Sucks cutting the cord only to then have to add numerous streaming services just to watch games every week to get all the channels that carry the NFL and NCAA games.

YoutubeTV
NFL Network
Amazon Prime
Peacock
ESPN+
CBS Sports Network

Just the start. Peacock rakes it in so there will be many more.

But as long as fans are willing to pony up they’ll keep raking it in. Don’t be surprised that in the not so distant future you won’t even be able to watch ANY NFL game on basic cable. I predict all sorts of pricing plans from local market games only to being able to watch any game regardless of viewer’s actual location. On top of that I predict that one will need to buy some sort of add on to watch the playoff games. Perhaps the only game that will be on regular cable will be the Super Bowl because I doubt advertisers will pay nearly as much as they do now if the audience is severely cut which would not doubt happen if it becomes PPV only.

Like I said earlier. They have plenty of money. They don’t need mine.
