Someone posted someplace else about Cigarbid adding a 50% on cigar purchases. I'm going to assume that's bogus as there's nothing here about it in the forums.

Can anyone confirm or deny the information?

Thanks!

I don’t see anything in my Admin email account.

Designo you seem like a good egg, so I’ll let you in on a little secret. The owner of CBid is named Dave, he loves helping the longtime forum members when we occasionally run into problems.

Call (214) 914-3337 9-4 central time and ask for Dave, tell Dave you’re friends with jaderose and then ask him your question.

That's what I was thinking. I know it's crazy expensive to buy cigars in places like NY.

Ahhh...I called the number, and that's not "Dave". He DID say he's received a lot of calls but can't figure out why. Apparently he lodged a complaint about a shipment, and now he gets phone calls for "Dave". d'oh!

Laugh That's some funny stuff there. Welcome to the forum Kevin.

Sounds like it must be a state thing. Just order something small to start and see. Or you could always check in with customer service. Some places don't charge sales tax at all if it's an out of state order.

Some states have really cranked up their tobacco taxes. Some online retailers are collecting those taxes for the states.

Indiana has a 25% cigar tax based on msrp not actual sale price like sales tax. One place I ordered from I went to checkout and there was $100+ in taxes on my $200 order. I found a different place to order from.

Holy cow! Almost 5 years Kevin!

You didn’t write, you didn’t call, you didn’t text. Frankie and your Mommy were worried sick!

Stick around and you’ll understand the joke.

Classic.
Some states are above 50%. I think Cali is 55%, Alaska is above 50, and Utah is lhighest at ike 85% but Mormons don't smoke cigars.

Hawaii is 50% but it’s a moot point as far as CBid goes. Because of the law passed last year, they no longer ship to Hawaii. But no biggie, already got lots of smokes and very little to no cigars on the CBid auction site that I want to bid on.

In New York, the tax rate is 75 percent of a cigar’s wholesale price which began October 1.2020.
That's highway robbery, it's no wonder I can't afford to buy cigars from a B&M.

New Jersey is pretty bad too. Luckily I'm right across the river from a nice shop in PA so I just go there for local shopping

I live in PA. One of the 2 states (FL is the other) and D.C. that have no tax on cigars. Every state taxes every other type of tobacco; cigarettes, chewing (snuff and chew), and loose (pipe and roll your own) and every state but 2 taxes cigars. That's why the biggest online retailers are based in PA.

Actually it’s because that’s where Dave’s from originally before he moved to Texas.
