YES Indeed:

AT&T, other cell service providers having outages, customers report
CBS News
BRIAN DAKSS, AIMEE PICCHI
Updated February 22, 2024 at 7:47 AM

BRENDAN MCDERMID / REUTERS
Customers of numerous U.S. cell service providers were reporting outages early Thursday morning, according to the website Downdetector.com, which tracks such reports. AT&T had by far the most, with tens of thousands of customers telling Downdetector they had no service.

Customers of T Mobile, Verizon, UScellular and Consumer Cellular were also reporting issues, though far, far fewer.

The reports of AT&T outages appear to have started at around 4 a.m. EST, Downdetector said, seemed to be waning some two hours later, then picked up again and were topping 60,000 at 7:30 a.m. EST.

Some municipalities were experiencing difficulties with 911 service.

The San Francisco Fire Department said in a post on X, the former Twitter, "We are aware of an issue impacting AT&T wireless customers from making and receiving any phone calls (including to 911). We are actively engaged and monitoring this. The San Francisco 911 center is still operational."

It added, "If you are an AT&T customer and cannot get through to 911, then please try calling from a landline. If that is not an option then please try to get ahold of a friend or family member who is a customer of a different carrier and ask them to call 911 on your behalf. Do not call or text 911 to simply test your phone service."

In North Carolina, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said on X at 3:15 a.m. EST that it was "aware of a nationwide outage impacting AT&T cell phone customers this morning. Customers were briefly unable to contact 9-1-1. There are no disruptions to our call center's ability to receive 9-1-1 calls. Service should be returning shortly."

And in Florida, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office posted on X at 6:43 a.m. EST that, "Texts to 911 from affected AT&T users are now being received. If you have an emergency, and cannot dial out, send a text message to 911."

The transit system serving Philadelphia and its suburbs, SEPTA, said on X that, "Due to AT&T communication outages, some trains may reflect a delay, however all trains are operating on or close to schedule."

AT&T

In a statement to CBS News, AT&T said that some customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions.

"We are working urgently to restore service to them," the statement said. "We encourage the use of wi-fi calling until service is restored."

As of 8 a.m. ET on Thursday, Downdetector had more than 60,000 reports of service issues from AT&T customers. Most of the complaints were focused on problems with their mobile phones or wireless service.

Outages were highest in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Louisville, Miami and San Antonio, according to Downdetector.

Verizon

In a statement to CBS News, Verizon said its network is operating normally, although some customers experienced issues earlier Thursday when calling or texting people who use another carrier. It said that it's continuing to monitor the situation.

T-Mobile

A spokesperson for T-Mobile said it didn't experience an outage and that its network is operating normally.

"Downdetector is likely reflecting challenges our customers were having attempting to connect to users on other networks," the spokesperson said.

Yep. We’ve all invited the devil inside our homes. Landlines will soon be abandoned and we’ll be at the mercy of cell towers, and international hackers. At least our government wins. Your televisions, cars and phones have the capabilities of always listening, watching and reporting.

But we get instant gratification, so it is soooooo worth it.

Yep... they can track your location to the room in your freakin' house with your cell phone. But people give up privacy for convenience.

They've used phones/cell towers to place criminals at certain locations at certain times...

But it's all good, man. Big brother isn't watching/listening... 1984 is not coming true. Those of us who think so are tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists.

OR... we're just paying attention.

Today was suppose to be the end of RRRW…. Retired Rat Race Week… with a 7:30 dentist appointment. Broke a tooth about eight weeks ago, so was looking forward to getting it assessed and a treatment timeline and plan.

Have been getting the reminder texts of the appointment. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’ll be there.

I get in 10 minutes early- door wasn’t even unlocked. The dental hygienist gets me into the chair….

“Any issues with you teeth?”
“Yes, broke a tooth around the first of the year.”

She looks into my mouth.

“Oh, that’s a big one.” Yeah, that’s what she said.
“Okay.”
“We can only do a cleaning because the doctor is out this morning”
“My appointment was for an Exam and Cleaning.”
“I know. Something to do with their kid.”
“Can I have the dentist’s cell phone number, please?”
(Silence).
“Maybe going forward, I’ll text them a week in advance and again a couple days before the exam to remind them of the appointment.”

Her gafaw/laugh stopped abruptly. The mask was covering her mouth, but her eyes were laughing.

Morning.

Driving down to Boca Raton again- this time alone- to stay in my daughter's new apartment to I can accept delivery of the furniture she bought. We move her in there next Saturday, but couldn't coordinate furniture delivery on a Saturday for three more weeks and she needs furniture when she moves in. So, I volunteered...

But... I am having dinner with my best friend from law school.! Haven' seen each other in person in 20+ years, when our families met for dinner while we were down there on vacation. This time, it's just the two of us- going to be a lot of reminiscing about our lives 35 years ago and all the stupid and great things we did together

Also looking forward to the Central Florida Herf next Friday!

Only 70 but the sun feels great by the pool.

The boy really likes that he has a TV in his room, just told me he's sick of swimming and wants to go back to his room. I said no TV, either homework or nap if we go back. He went back in the pool.

We were gonna do Orlando auto museum today but it's the first actual nice weather day, so I think it's just gonna be a pool day.

Just polished off a few I got from Chinese take out. I don't know how what it is about them, but wings from a good take out place are awesome.

Currently my Son and his Girlfriend are making some recipe from a Dungeons & Dragons cookbook. I thumbed through the cookbook and the recipes are pretty much the same you'd get from most other cookbook but uses some D&D names to name the dish.

My Son is not very experienced in cooking (Dad, what do they mean by deglaze the pan?). His Girlfriend is better at cooking and knows most of the general stuff (she knows what it means to deglaze a pan and how to make a roux). She assigned my Son to cut the veggies and prep the stuff while she took control of the stove. It's pretty funny listening to them.

They are making some sort of garlic chicken and veggie stew with dumplings. It called for sherry to add flavor and deglaze but I don't have sherry in the house nor wine fro substitute. I suggested some chicken broth mixed with some ginger ale (shrug). We'll see how it turns out.

Tomorrow they plan on making some meatball recipe. Some D&D name but pretty much standard meatball recipe: beef and Italian sausage balls seared in a pan then simmered in tomato sauce.

It the food turns out then that's a plus. If not, it's a learning experience. Either way they are in charge of not only cooking but cleaning up the kitchen and doing the dishes. My only responsibility was to purchase the ingredients that we didn't have on hand that they needed.

Stew called for leeks. Leeks? I don't have nor keep leeks on hand. I'll buy, you fly to the store and get some leeks.

Another walking cigar.

3 miles 45 minutes.

Wife complains I walk too fast. Her fit bit was saying 140 heart rate. I was smoking and only reading 100. She says I'm out of shape cause she exercises every day and I don't. And it's not short legs taking twice my steps, she's 6 foot.

Guess as long as I'm walking nobody saying anything about non smoking resort. Haven't smoked anything too nice, kinda hard to relax with a good one while walking. Accidentally switched up a charter oak and a la Aurora 120th between my vacation pack and the Conan bomb, looking forward to that when I get home.

1 more day. Leaving Saturday morning. Haven't decided if I want to try leaving at 3am again to get home by 9pm or wait till after breakfast and get home after midnight.
