Silly Idea...

In my line of work, there are very few (if any) who share my enthusiasm for cigars, so I’m a “Rogue”, a black sheep isolated out here so I had this crazy idea that I thought I’d run across everyone to see what y’all think: A gift exchange for the holidays. If some of you like the initial idea, let me know, and I’m sure we can come up with some cool exchanges.

I'm in ONLY if I get to trade a box of Bad Frogs to ric for a box of CAO's!

I would be willing to trade also. Not a one of the people I work with or my friends smoke cigars. So I guess I am sort of a Rogue also. They can't understand why I get so excited when a package comes containing cigars.

I'd be in, but i don't know about a whole box trade. I think 5-10 good/rare/never tried sticks would be a good idea.

I think you guys are talking about a box pass. The idea is nothing new or silly. It's a good way to meet people and try different smokes. First of all you will need to find a few participants.

The originator puts somewhere around 10 to 20 cigars in a box and sends it to a the first recipient. He will take four or five cigars (usually a set limit on takes) and put back in the same amount and dollar equivalent of cigars back in. Usually you add a bonus stick. Then send it to the next guy. A larger box ends up at the originators house with different smokes than originally sent.

A no-no would be take a Padron Anniversary and replace it with 5 Lone Wolfs (though no one would complain if you took 5 Lone Wolfs and replaced them with a PAM). You will always want to use Priority shipping with Delivery Confirmation. Insurance is a good idea too and it's pretty cheap.

Hope this helps.

How about a grap bag with dollar limit, say $15.00. Draw numbers and from people in the pool. You could be getting a lifetime supply of Bad Frogs, or, something good like 5 vegas, 15 Perdoma wheels, etc.

There are some really good ideas so far. Wbslngr, that is what I was thinking with this idea, a few cigars as a gift exchange. I was soliciting some ideas about how to do this, but I imagined maybe pooling names, then giving each other someone’s name, and a description of what “type” (like maduro, ring gauge, etc.)of cigars they like, then the giver would surprise them with $x amount of cigars that we might all agree on. I’ve gotta get, but will get back more with y’all. Let me know what you think.

I could make a web form where we could fill out our address, email, gauge desire, and such, then you could take it and divide it up. What do you think?

I'd add something like:

"Type of cigar: Full-bodied, Medium-bodied, etc."

and anything else you all think would be good.

I know at the HP site, they did a 'secret Santa' thing. I think someone took names and emailed them to everyone...maybe there was a dollar amount or stick count involved (I dunno)...haven't check that site for a few weeks, so I don't know how it turned out.

Wbslngr emailed me the form he's working on, and it looks great! George said that he should have it done today sometime. I was thinking a dollar amount limit, but I like E-chick's idea about a stick amount, that sounds better.

Tom any suggestions you or anyone else has would be great! Just keep your eyes on this post for the latest. If you know anyone else that'd like to participate, clue-em' in to this post and we'll include as many as we can.

have a great day!

I'm in too!

I didn't know what to put for ring gauge. I never pay attention to that, only I know that I don't like the skinny little ones...And I don't like the flavored ones either...

Looks like y'all are off to a good start. Box passes are cool. Take and put equal value sticks, and use MSRP as the guidelines. As far as Bad Frogs...good luck finding MSRP... HAHAHA

I'm in. Do you get matched up with someone with the same preferences? IE: medium - full bodied, 44-50 gauge? That would be the smart way. If I get someone who likes skinny, flavored cigars, they are outta luck!!

Hey all, sorry it took me a while to get back with you on this, we celebrated Christmas early in my house today.

That is a great idea, matching those with similar preferences. George is handling the matching, and he'll do the best he can to match us with like-preferences. Everyone has contributed with some very good ideas that has made this a very fun.

BTW George and I thought it would be a good idea that we run this through the end of Christmas week. I know that this is a gift exchange, but word is getting around and we're getting lots of people that want to participate, so we're going to let as many in as possible. Plus, if you're like me, and you're going away for Christmas, it may be more convenient to end the submission of forms just after Christmas. I believe George (Wbslngr) said something about the end of this upcoming week. I'll let him set the date since he is the man that's making all of this possible. Great Job George...You are THE man!

Keep up the input, we can only make it better. Jstevens: as far as box trades go, I believe the consensus was to go with 4-sticks, since some of us may not own an unopened box. I'm sure if George has someone interested in a box trade, he'll match you, plus "Inquester" is always looking to do box trades.

Have a Merry Christmas! I know I will, my lovely wife just got me a 7-drawer humidor.

Hey all, I think this is going to be a blast! wswmcj, what Jstevens meant by the box pass is a different style of passing smokes between one another that some other web pages do. You don't actually exchange full boxes of cigars. He is right, they do seem rather fun, even though I was never involved in one yet. Maybe we can get a thread started on how exactly they are performed and when our holiday pass is done, we can do a box pass, if everyone would like to. Also, is there anyway I can get the names and addresses of all the people involved in the Holiday pass for some future surprise cigar bombings?! Happy smoking all!

TomRep: I see, I am pretty new to all of this, and I'm not up on all of the lingo yet. That does sound like fun, and when we're done with this gift exchange, I would definitely participate in the box exchange you're talking about. As far as forwarding the names and addresses to you, I'd be more than happy. As soon as I get them all in and do the matching, I'll get them to you.
**If anyone who has submitted their address and wouldn't like suprise cigar packages from TomRep, e-mail me at: [email protected] and I'll keep your info private.
You'll definitely get my address Tom!
