Currently smoking my first one. IMHO, I don't see what the hype is all about. Maybe I'm missing something, here. Any others feel the same?

... don't judge a cigar (any cigar) on the firt one you have ever smoked.

The same cigar will be a different experience each time you smoke it, depending on the time of day, what you have eaten, what you are drinking, your mood and how you are feeling ... etc.

... also, a big factor on how you experience a cigar, is how advanced of a cigar smoker you are, and what flavor profiles are you looking for in a smoke ... and how developed are your tastes.

thanks for the advice.....I still have one more, slightly larger one that was given to me. I'll let it sit for a while before I try that one.

My heretical opinion:
OpusX is a very good cigar, but not as good as all the accompanying hype and the price tag would make you think it was going to be ... I remember telling you (TarHeel) in an e-mail several months ago that I'd just as soon have a Bucanero Full Sail ... and when one considers that more than one Full Sail can be bought for the same money as one OpusX, my money goes to the Buc every time ...

PAMs are another I consider to be as good as an OpusX, but their price tag is also one that's on the high side ... I know, you get what you pay for and stuff that goes for a buck or two apiece are not to be confused with high-end stuff like this, but there are any # of cigars that are extremely good and offer more pleasure per dollar spent than OpusX does ...

imho, nothing beats an Opus. On the other hand, I haven't been able to get that excited about the habanos I've smoke, which to some is heresy. It just goes to show how one man's meat is another man's poison. It's also true, that tastes are always changing, and the nature of the cigar itself changes as it sits in your 'dor. I haven't been able to see the big hype for the Buccaneros either. For the price, and availability, Flor de A. Allones favoritas are great. Also, Hoyo de Monterrey double maddies are great too.

I love opus, and was fortunate enough to be gifted one of the forbidden opus from the humidor.. I cant wait to light this up. IMHO opus is one of the most reliably good cigars all the time.. Not too much can beat them.

Different strokes for different folks. I like FOX's,I like Buc's,FDA also. I've only had one HDM Dbl Maddy. It was a sample from the RTDA given to me by i.am.steve. It was beautiful to look at,lotsa smoke, but alas it was flavorless,IMO. I'll have to try another from the final release of these guys, before I make a final judgement. X

SteveS --- I'm a little confused.

How is your opinion contrary to church dogma?

Just remember tar ... a cigar (like anything else in this world) amounts to only what it means to you personally.

Slim, I agree with what you're saying ... the heresy is that what I'm saying about OpusX is contrary to the prevailing dogma among the majority of worshippers at the Church of the Rolled Up Leaves ...

Definitely not my fav cigar...I just like so many others. I would smoke them again if the occassion arose, but not my first, second, third, or even fourth choice.

Price isn't a bearing on IF I'd smoke them. If I really loved it, I'd buy/smoke it more often (they are readily available to me)...

But there are many here on CBid that have yet to try one and there are those that love them...it just doesn't suit my tastes at the moment (which will change and evolve over time). I'd never tell someone not to try one.

Now the 'FLAVORED' cigars are another story...JK!

Once again, this is a 'to each his own thing'...

Love the Opus X line. I've got about 20 of them sitting in my box. Problem is, I need a "special occasion" to fire them up.

I'm with you. Save good cigars for special occasions.
Here's one rule of thumb for "Special Occasions"... Only smoke on days that end in "y".
