DAY 1: I recently won a 5 pack of subject cigars. The 1st one out the box was pure poetry...through my tears of joy and the "afterglow"...I ran to the computer and bid on another 5 pack. DAY 2: I can't wait to light the second one...only this time the draw was so hard, I started looking around for the "adult entertainment" camera man!!! Not being the type to quit...I smoked it about half way before I got a smooth draw and enjoyable smoke. Needless to say, cigars 3 & 4 stayed consistent with cigar #2. Has anyone else tried these?? Is there some trick I should incorporate that will "loosen" the roll??? Inquiring minds want to know??

AJ,

Haven't tried those particular sticks, but you could gently *massage* them to loosen them up. Or you could use a punch (available on Cbid) to ease the draw also.

I don't have a punch yet, but the massage technique works well...good luck!

dkademujohn --- I'm not sure what 'punch' E-Chick is talking about, as the only punch that I know of is just another was of cutting the cap ... and in no way will improve a tough draw.

If you want to buy a 'gadget', I would suggest the Draw Poker, but there are cheaper methods to get the desired results.

Personally, I use one of those 'turkey' kits you see around Thanksgiving in the housewares dept. at your local hardware store or supermarket. It's one of those pointed metal rods that have the eye at the end, used to sew up the cavity of the turkey after you stuff it.

... it works great!

There are many more ways to do it, if you get creative ... like any thin metal, bamboo, etc. rod with a pointed end.

See, this is precisely why we have bored po-leese... I'm mean border patrol... opps... board police!

Slim is correctomundo on the punch thingy! What I meant to say was strip poker... I mean Draw Poker!

Sorry, your "adult entertainment" mention got my mind wandering! (We women need to stick together here! Don't get me sidetracked, LOL!!!)

the Draw Poker does not really provide relief to this problem.....cigars that are "plugged" are best enjoyed by, as Slim also pointed out, cutting them down past the obstruction.

All,
Thanks for the advice. I've tried rolling them...it didn't help. But I do have one of those "turkey" kits...it was on sale...now I actually have a good excuse to use it!

Marla,

Thanks for the personal welcome! I live in the midwest and I was beginning to feel like I was a tribe of one...it's comforting to know there are others!!!Also, sorry to get your mind wandering, but couldn't think of a more accurate way to describe the "sensation"...oops...there I go again!!:-0!!

Where in the midwest? Talk about a tribe of one. I haven't seen anyone from Indiana other than me. All of these get togethers and herfs in all places but here or close to here.

Ooh. AJ, you better watch out for Coach then. wbslinger, the only one I know down there is Joedinc, he don't post here much anymore. Besides, you can't get the guy to stop working long enough to herf.

Make sure it isn't just over-humidified before you poke it. Maybe it just needs to dry out a couple days.

eleltea makes a very valuable point. Most vendors keep their cigars at storage in excess of 70 RH. Consequently, the excess moisture in the tobacco has swollen the filler so that little air can pass and allow a comfortable draw. Your cigars, generally, will need to stabilize for a few days before they reach optimum RH for smoking. This can vary with every cigar, so it's a good idea to clip the cap and test the draw before you light the cigar. If it's too tight, allow the cigar to rest in an unhumidified cedar box for a day or two. If it doesn't improve, either there's a twist in the filler or the torcedor crammed too much tobacco into the mold, before applying the wrapper. The turkey needle solution sounds much like what I did for years with Cuban petite coronas. My cigar of choice, for many years, was the Cuban Fonseca Delicia. It's a small inexpensive cigar, about 4.5 x 40 in size. Many during the late 90s were rolled too tight. I used a 6" upholstery needle and dental tape (not floss, too thin). When a box arrived, I'd thread the needle with dental tape and push it through the cap to the foot, of each cigar, then clip the double strands of tape, leaving about a quarter inch of tape at each end of the cigar. Then I'd place all the cigars, floss running through the middle, back in the box and let them rest for a couple of months. When I wanted to smoke one, I'd simply remove the floss, and find that I had a cigar that was smokeable. The problem with the drawpoker or any device that doesn't remain within the cigar for, at least a few days, is that the tobacco will rebound after you withdraw the poker and get tight again as you smoke.

Thanks SteveR,
I've already removed the cigars from their sealed glass tubes. I'll let them dry box it for a few days. I'll try one to see if that's the solution, if not, I may resort to the dental tape method. They're smooth cigars with a magnificent aroma, hope one of these methods work.
