Lady (Marla) and Gentlemen, I'm currently away from home, Dayton, Ohio (the cigar capital of the world...NOT!), and I'm here in San Antonio, and was curious if some of my friends here know of any nice places to visit here (Cigar related). I've never been to a cigar-bar, or a decent cigar-friendly restaurant/bar, could you all suggest a few for me, I'll be here for a month. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Joel

Thanks-Joel

I'm also drooling thinking about the mexican food there. Here in Boston sucks, processed tortilla, ground beef and bottle of catsup they call salsa. Why did I ever move away.

Joel

let me know what you find out. I'm setting up a conference for March at the Radisson. It's a few blocks from the river walk but we went where we got the government rate and the best deal. Of course I confirmed with the hotel that cigar smoking is permitted in their lounge. A quick internet check shows about half dozen cigar shops near the river walk.

I see you're out of WPAFB. Probably work in one of those program offices, huh? I work at the AFC2ISRC/SC at Langley.

Welcome Joel. Ditto on the Humidor locations. Some good cigar-friendly restaurants are: any Chili's, Texas Land and Cattle on IH 10 between Wurzbach and Huebner, and Lyndy's on Fredericksburg Road in the Medical Center. Enjoy San Antonio...

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'll look into them all, and hit at least one this weekend.

Penzt8-you read me right on the money (ASC/YCK), are you active duty or a civilian? Langley has got to be a lot nicer than Wright-Patt! BTW, you mentioned doing a quick internet search, did you go to a specific site?

Boy wish I had gotten this info before I went down there last summer... I walked around the Riverwalk for 2 hours with no cigar in my hand... sad really.

Joel,

I'm retired AF, now a contractor. I went to yahoo maps and did a search for san antonio. Just put in the address of the hotel you're staying at. After that you can check out shopping opportunities and search for cigar stores near your hotel. I do that before I go on any trips. I always like to stop in to different shops when I travel.

The largest selection is at The Humidor on San Pedro. They have some hard to find Fuentes right now. The Club Humidors are good.

The Cigar Club on 1604 has the most room. If you are here by yourself I reccommed PTs or the Wild Zebra. You can smoke cigars in almost any bar. The Fox and the Hound on DeZavala is where the new YUPPIES congregate.

Let me have your email address if you are gonna be here for a while. A group of us meet once a month for smoking at The Cigar Club. "[email protected]"

Hope you see this before its too late.

The group is meeting at "The Cigar Club" on Friday. That is tomorrow. At 7:00pm. Just look for a big guy with a long pony tail who is named Jeff. Bring a couple of cigars and a travel humidor. (Gifts are rained in abundance upon newbies)

Anyone in the area is welcome to join.

Call the club at: 490-9340 for directions.

Hope to see you there. (Sorry for the short notice Jazzman, AGAIN)

GetYourOwn, I'll be there. I'll call The Cigar Club and get directions. Do my best to get there by 7pm. I'm in the Air Force, and am attending class until 4:30ish, so it shouldn't be a problem to get there by 7pm. Look forward to seeing y'all.

Take Care, Joel

Hey Joel,
I'm a Daytonian too!!! I just left ASC/YD...now work in ASC/PM. I usually get odd stares when I ramble on about my cigars...we MUST get together!

Frank, I had a great time at the Cigar Club! What a great bunch of guys you all are. Plus, everyone was soooo generous with their 'gifts'. And thanks for answering so many questions.

AJ, wow ASC/PM?? That is awesome! I'm a PM by AFSC, but working as a contract negotiator ASC/YCK. When I get back from TDY here in San Antonio, we WILL definitely get together. Plus if you're ever in San Antonio, you've got to look up, GetYourOwn (Paul), and Smoker06 (Frank), they threw one helluva Herf! Hey AJ, drop me an email: [email protected]

I'll have to keep you guys in mind when we head out to San Antonio in a couple of months. Our program conference is scheduled for the week of 18 -21 March at the Radisson near Market Square. I've never been there before but I've been doing my research. I'll probably get in town a day or two early and stay an extra night at the end. Would be great to meet some of the guys while I'm in town.

penzt8, If I'm ever lucky enough to get a TDY to Langley, I'll look you up for sure. As far as places to go here in SA, you've got to go to The Humidor on San Pedro. Among the finest cigar shops I've seen yet! Great selection, great prices too. Then you have to visit The Cigar Club on Stone Oak! You can probably tell from one of my last posts, I liked it. Nice cigar bar.

Let me know if you need more info Penzt8, [email protected]

Later-Joel
