Guys, I just won one of these Jars. Should have asked before, but I've already won it($13). Bought it for the office. Have any of you used one of these? The humidifier is built into the lid. Its acrylic.

This is the link if you would like to see which model it is.

Mag ... I've got two that are generally similar and find they work well although the humidifier in the lid has such a limited capacity that it needs checking and re-plenishing with distilled water more often than average ... I took both of them with me on vacation (to a much drier climate than we have here) and found I had to re-soak the little sponge every other day ... here, it's good for several days as a rule ...

i have one. keep my severe rockets in there.
steves is right, that sponge thingie in the lid isnt a great device. you could get a different device (like a piece of oasis foam in the little sponge compartment). but if youre not gonna use it for long term storage i bet it wouldnt matter so much.
one thing; i find that that upright storage can potentially damage the feet of your cigars. i put mine feet-up so they rest on the cap.

Mag,

I won one about 3 years ago. The adhesive side of the velcro which holds the humidifier kept failing. Thus, the humidifier fell on top of the cigars, ruining them. I compensated by laying the jar on its side. That worked for a little while. I finally gave up. But now that you mention it, I should be able to engineer a solution. Ah, another challenge....

Mag,

They make a decent work humi but I'd shy away from putting my good sticks in it.

I would consider it only a short term cigar holder. Unless your humidity is in the teens, most of your cigars will get more smokeable out of the humi for a day or two or three anyway, just laying around on your desk. It's kind of fun to fuss, but for short periods of time it really isn't vital.

if you remember my pix a while back. i have almost a dozen cigar jars. some on the bookcase near me in the living room. and 4 or 5 under the computer desk or in the garage.

i don't keep anything good in the jars, just the bargin cigars i win here becauser no one in their right mind would smoke them except me.

when i go to vegas i take at least 4. i try not to mix my good cigars, and i use a small humidifing device that hangs on the top with velcro. the cigars are safe that way for the two weeks i spend there.

I have had great luck with my jar. I don't even have to keep the humidifier in there. I only keep it in there if the humidity starts to drop. The only problem with having the perfect seal of the jar, is that you have to make sure to open it occassionally to let them breath.

I also don't put my great smokes in there. Right now I have the blowout smokes from a couple months ago. (Hoja de Nic).

Had one years ago. It over humidified even with the smallest about of distilled water used. Started using old cigar boxes and had much better results.

I've had two for quite a while, and find that as long as I regularly check on the sponge being moist with distilled water, they work great!!!
