My buddies and I are arguing as to whether or not one's stix should be stored "naked" or in their individual wrappers(cellophane or otherwise)in a large capacity humidor.I would appreciate all opinions.Does it make any difference if the puros are kept for the short term ? thnx

This will raise the cello/no-cello debate, but I do think the larger capacity humidor leans strongly toward cello on. It is hard to control the humidity, unless you have the fancy electronic/active humidifier. If you have an active humidifier, do whatever you like.

My advice: store naked those you like with cedar notes. Otherwise, if you don't want cedar notes on a certain cigar, keep it celloed.

My two-cents.

Do a search on that subject by typing the word "Cello" and hit the "Search All".

You'll have plenty to read. Enjoy.

Woe is he/she who darest make mention of a redundant topic! Guys, be nice. He is only trying to further his enjoyment of the leaf, and not everyone is blessed with ESP.

Unless you plan to leave them in your humi for a significant period of time and want them to have cedar notes, leave the cello on.

By the way, there are some lifeless HAM radio operators lurking about, ignore them!

He's my take on the subject. I store my cigars with the cello on and the end piece of cello cut off. this allows for proper humidification and protect the wrapper as well. X

Taking the cello off will NOT impart cedar notes to a cigar. Unless perhaps your humidor is woefully understocked. Or you have a crappy humidor. A humidor should stay at approx 2/3 full at all times. Cello off ages them faster and better. But all that's just my opinion!

Once I move them to my "on deck" humi they're naked. In my storage humis I leave the cello on; that is unless they came naked. There are enough experienced smokers that do it both ways, with success, to lead me to believe that it isn't a major factor. Find your predjudice and accumulate evidence to support your position while rationalizing opposing points of view. Works for me.

i usually leave the cellophane on, unless i dont. dont see it makes much difference. store some with and without for a few months and see if you can tell any difference.

Some of the Nics out there are made with leaves cured in cedar barrels. Some are packed in freshly cut cedar boxes. I think that's where the cedar notes come from. A good, well used humidor should not make your cigars taste like cedar.

Ok, I think we have reached middle ground.....the cedar notes I have experienced have been as a result of a "new" humidor. Come to think about it, my much older humi doesn't have near as much of an affect....hmmm. I do recognize that there are some cigars out there that "come with" cedar elements; however, my most recent experience has been with a Don Juan Platinum Torpedo....it took on a very strong cedar character. The humi it was sitting in was far from cheap, but it is relatively new. Well, it's good that I like a gar to have a cedar quality.

Actually, I like that flavor too. For instance: A Cupido Criollo fresh out of the box is very sweet and cedary. After some aging, it mellows quite a bit. La Lunas have it too. The Bucaneros I have also have a hint. But if the flavor came from your humidor, all your cigars would have that flavor, cello or no. But I admit, a low number of cigars, in a fresh humidor, might pick up some cedar flavor. I put about 75 in the new one I made. I have been smoking the Indian Tabacs out of it and they don't have a hint of cedar. That's why Spanish cedar is used. It helps regulate humidity but does not foul your cigars. It may depend on the box though, how much the cedar was dried before use. There are lots of variables.
