After viewing "Black Hawk Down" this evening whilst enjoying a few brews and a crappy cigar that was forced upon me, I was stricken with an urge to re-up. While i admit i am an adrenline junkie, the main thought that ran thru my head was how we all worked towards a common goal, whether it was as simple as unloading ammo at the practice range to guarding my buddies back patrolling. And just the other day i learned that my old division sent troops over to towel-head country, I almost feel like it is my duty to go back in. Any of ya'll out there ever feel like that?

I guess you could call me a peacetime veteran as i never was involved in any operation where i was under fire, came close quite a few times though. But I digress, it's late and im drunk.

Wait until you're sober before making any decisions involving re-enlisting.

This comes from a lifer so consider the source. When you feel the urge to re-up, think of these things: All the crappy little jobs you had to do that made you feel like somebodie's gofer. The heat, the cold, the wet, they dry. Did you ever work for someone who didn't like you? Who questioned every decision you made? Who didn't care if you looked foolish to your men? Those are just a few of the bad points. Of course there are even more good points. If none of the bad things ever happened to you, re-up now! If you have a wife, make sure and check with her first.

You already did your time (me too). Let the guys and gals already in place take care of this.
Godspeed to all our military troops in harms way.

i can't remember who said it but it went something like:

unless something else replaces it, men will always like the camraderie, the common goal, the being together with buddies, the mano e mano, of WAR.

thats a good movie to get the Blood up... the Guy in the film who cut his cast off his wrist lives about 60 miles from me... the radio station did an Interview with him when the movie hit the Theaters... and I read an Artical on a Group now in Kuwait training and waiting to go into Iraq and one of the Instructors/Sgts in Charge was also in that Unit at the time... Another good Movie is "Saving Private Ryan"
I did ok on a Date up until that lil B@st@rd let the German go up them stairs and wipe out those two guys because he was a chicken $h!t.. I stood up and Yelled you Little F$*(^%(n Pr!!*$&k needless to say after dropping my date off we never seen each other again LoL

as far as re-uping I don't have a clue on your age and weather you can or not... but I would say Go Guard...
you can finish out the rest of your Military for a pension and at the same time get into just about anything that may fit your lifestyle

Good Luck to Ya

I'm gonna re-up because I am over half way to retirement, and I'm only 28.

arbn2/505,

I know what your feelin, It's hard to watch the tube and not think that I left the Navy 4 months ago and they need me now. Especially having been in the medical field, my expertise would've been helpful. But I would have to agree. Think about re-upping when you have a clear head and rememember that your space has been filled...My all time favorite war movie is "The Deer Hunter." The Russian roulette scene is grippin...

if you can handle it, i think it is a great idea. if you leave the service with a skill that can get you a decent job plus the pension, you will be in great shape.

i have no personal experience in retiring, but every one that i have met that is retired from the military tells me the same thing. i pass on what i have heard and wish you all the best.

I could get out now and more than double my salary, but I love what I do and I love my country, so I'll stay until they force me out....pretty much.
