Forgive me if this is a dumb question but...I got my first butane lighter as part of a CBid samper. It worked good for a while and when it quit I figgered it was out of gas. Got me a filler-up thing of butane and stuck the nozzle thing in the hole but I didn't know whether the nozzle thingie should point up or down...so I done it both ways. Anyhow it sucked up some gas but still don't work. What am I doing wrong?

Definately need the butane upside down. Also, you need to turn the flame hight adjuster all the way down. I read a post recently about plugged lighters, you might want to check up on that.

Doesn't seem to be a flame adjuster on this one. There's a small phillips-head screw on the bottom nest to the filler hole, does that do something?

no philips had scrws. where the filler do hickey is, should be a ring with a place to put in a small screwdriver, not philips head. if you see it, turn it clockwise. some of the little buggers are not easy. then push against the filler butten and you should hear the rest of the gas coming out, don't have anything like a lit cigar near it. push down from the top, lighter upside down and can, nozzle down. 2 or 3 seconds will fill it. turn that little adjuster almost all the way counterclockwise and put the lighter away for 15 minutes or so, so there are no fumes. if it doesn't fire up on the first or second try, put a lit lighter where the flame should come out and open the lighter you just filled. if nothing happens, throw it away.

try to light it and hold down the button so you hear gas escapeing.Insert fuel can into where the flane comes out upside down and give it 4or 5 good blasts. Now let it dry for 10-15 minutes and light it.Now adjust flame at the bottom with small to medium sized regular screw driver.Works for me almost every time.

You may just need to blow it out. If you got some compressed air, use that. If not, do what JJ says.

You shoulda sent it to me to see if I could make it work. But from the sound of it, it wasn't worth the postage.

Go to the local 7-11 and get yourself a $5 torch. When it stops working, you won't feel bad about tossing it.

Toss the damn thing and get a decent lighter or use matches! I prefer matches, the old fashioned wooden ones! I have a couple of Colibri lighters and a bunch of zippos, but still prefer matches!

Those cheap butane lighters are damned dangerous to begin with!

What about a good ol' flint butane lighter? Anybody use those anymore? I've got a Colibri one with a punch on the bottom and I love that thing!!
