...smoking a natural of one type of cigar and a maduro of the same cigar.

I've found that the maduro wrapper tends to give the cigar a more rich, toasted sort of taste. I really enjoy maduros as they do tend to be a rich alternative to the Conn. shade wrapped stogies of the world. Try a Padron 3000 in natural, then in maduro. This would be a great comparison.

^^^ Excellent! I could not have said that any better.

There are those who think the maduro is stronger ... sometimes I don't know how to interpret that word when it comes to cigars ... for me, in many instances, the maduro's have a less harsh edge to them than the nats ... it's a rich smoothness that I could only compare to dark chocolate or certain very rich coffee ... but, bear in mind, taste varies widely ... how else could you account for Anna Nicole Smith?

I find I enjoy a maduro is there is some spice to it like you get with a sungrown wrapper. Or a sungrown wrapper that was made into a maduro like the Padron PAMs. Otherwise, to me anyway, maduros tend to taste to much like dirt (oh excuse me, "earthy"). Some maduros I've found enjoyable are of course the PAMs, Fuente Reserva Anejo, Partagas Black, The Cigar, Consuegra, and Bucanero.

I'm guessing Anna is considered a natural and Halle Berry a Maduro,LOL.
Actually to me the Maddy in most lines does exhibit a richer mellower taste, along with fuller bodied smoke, while its counterpart in Natural tends to be sharper, less full body in the smoke and more peppery. Most times this is a good thing,as straight menu of Maduro can become monotonous. X

I agree with much of what has been said to this point. I would like to add that I like the texture of maduro wrappers. They are a bit toothy and sometimes have a sugary taste. I think the maduros are blended to be more peppery and spicy too.
