The Cuban embargo has gone too far

Here's a little item that came to my attention this morning ... strikes me that the bureaucrats in Washington have gone over the edge with this one and have proven once again, the truth in the old aphorism that says the problem with common sense is that it really isn't all that common ...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
US bans 'Cuban' Glenfiddich
A scotch malt has been banned from the US because it was matured in Cuban rum barrels. Glenfiddich Havana Reserve has fallen foul of American legislation which restricts trade with Cuba, even though it is distilled in Scotland.

The luxury 21yearold single malt, which costs £60 a bottle, is produced by William Grant and Sons at its Dufftown distillery in the Highlands, 4000 miles from the sugar cane fields of Cuba.

Steve

You are right. This is really going too far! It's ridiculous.

Cuban cigars have been in the White House on an ongoing basis...and on Capitol Hill...and anywhere else our high and mighties work and reside.

Do as I say, not as I do...

Too far? Maybe, maybe not.
How much of the hootch did the U.S. import?
By our importing the stuff, it gives the manufacturer the green light to continue to use Cuban barrels.
If our purchasing volume is significant, it may cause the manufacturer to look into non-Cuban barrels.
It is not only the use of the barrels but when ever you age stuff in a barrell, the barrel imparts some flavor into what ever is being aged, there by actual Cuban microorganisms being imported into the U.S.

Anal? Probably.

I am curious as to why they can not make their own barrels or get them from a closer source.

This ruling is so deeply absurd, I can't even formulate a response. What's next? No cigars rolled by Cuban immigrants because there might be microrganisms left from the island in their fingernails? What if a Nicaraguan roller smokes a Cuban cigar on his break...damn, there'll be all sorts of Cuba in the room...and all of humanity will wilt because of it.

Let's give Florida to Cuba and call it even. Take our crazies, please! Then we can get back to the business of buying Cubans without going through the Windsor tunnel to La Casa del Habano.

OK, so I formulated a response. Forgive me.

Sorry if that seemed a promotion remark. Not intentional. Didn't think of it until you responded. My bad.

Do you mean the coffeeshop? I've bought a few cigars there, and they were great (even smoked them in that crazy, hermetically sealed room)...but I don't remember the prices being better. I will look more closely next time. Thanks.

I've worried about fakes at other cigar shops there. Let me know if there are trustworthy ones.

I didn't have a lot to do just now so I thought about this long and hard. I have to agree with our legislature for banning the import of this evil product. Those evil communist barrels pose a real threat to our great nation. Just imagine all those poor American barrel makers that stand to lose their jobs because those communist sympathizers in Scotland are using barrels constructed under the watchful eye of an oppressive government.

The first thing that will happen is the American Brotherhood of Coopers will stage a walk out strike to protest the unfair competition. Barrel production in our country will come to a screeching halt. Next, they will petition their brothers in other labor unions to join them in a show of solidarity. They'll get immediate support from the cardboard box and bottle industries and they will also stage walkouts in protest. Without boxes and bottles, other manufacturing industries will be forced to suspend production. Massive layoffs will follow. It will be devastating! And for what? Just so some rich **** can buy a hundred dollar bottle of 21-year-old scotch. Well I say it just ain't worth it!
