Just a quick question or two. First off does anyone else keep a detailed logbook of the cigars they have had? The reason I ask is I want to find a ring guage tool so I can accurately discribe it in my book. What looks to be a 48 could be a 49 or fifty and we all know that smokes of the same brand but different size may not be eqaul. Do any of you know where to get such a tool? Thanks, Mike

I have a comparison technique which will very accurately compare the Cuban Parejo Galaxia to ensure it's the right size. However, it's somewhat personal and may not work well for others... =:-o

You could download and print this http://www.iserv.net/~wmize/cigsize.html

Also, please stop by my Cigar Journal thread and tell me about yours! I am looking to find one right now. http://www.cigarbid.com/...ageDisplay=0000000008151

Yea I keep a journal of gars I have enjoyed, but have never concerned myself with minute details of the experience. Those I will recall as I read through the journal and reminisce. What I usually do is jot down what it is (if I recall that after I pull out the ring from my pocket) jot a few details of who and when and what was going on while I enjoyed it. simple but effective for what I want.

Robby, I think it's probably safe to assume that your formula is based on some sort of ratio or scale relationship. If not, you have an extremely low center of gravity and would pass out from loss of blood when excited.

MKRAUS, a ruler will do it for you. Gauge is measured in 64ths of an inch by the diameter. So, a 50 ring gauge cigar will measure 25/32".

A lot of cigar mags/books have a pull-out ruler with holes in it that indicate the basic ring gauges.
Just put the 'gar in the hole... hmmmm...

Thanks guys. I have neer seen a pull out in any mag I have read or in any of the various books I have. I will keep looking. I almost bought a caliper(s?)but then thought better of it. I guess it is not that important to me to know exactly, it would just help.

Go to GOOGLE and type in "the cigar sizer". Should get several sites that sell a plastic guage to measure cigar ring sizes.

THL, You are soooo bad! I'm not even gonna say anything! Opps, I just did!

But, I really had to comment on the thread title because I'm cracking up here visualizing a recent bathroom experience...My son yells for me to come quick...only for me to find him in the bathroom and that he's proud of a certain accomplishment and wanted me to see the 'log', LOL!

Cigar Log...can't get that sight outta my mind...GROSS!!! Guess it's a guy thing. Men. At any age.

hey I was just thumbing through my thompson cigar catalog and noticed on the center order page there is a cigar ringsize scale. Also for the 'gar newbies there is a "how to speak cigar" on the same page. check it out.

That's the only use I have for their catalog. I've torn a couple out to keep in various places and then I file the rest. They've got the most creative writers I've ever come across.

Here we go again. LOL

Here's my scientific solution to keeping a smoking log and tasting notes, databases, chalkboard...whatever.

I toss the rings from the ones I like in a drawer, my wallet, the center console of my truck. I usually remember what I don't like.

I have never purchased a really crappy cigar twice. Anything else I'll muddle through. Unless you are going to start your own shop, web site or magazine....waaay too much time spent on research.
