As I brought up the CBid page, I noticed one of the pictured items on the opening page was a 5-pack of Astral candela's ... I haven't smoked a candela in years and don't see many offered anywhere ... in fact, I can't even think of seeing them in any of the local stores in a long time either, but it used to be they were quite common ... any of you ever smoke candela's of any brand ??? does anyone smoke them on a regular basis ???

Steve, the Astral Candellas are a very mild cigar, and all the Astrals I've smoked have excellent construction and burn qualitys. Astrals are a real steal at CBid prices and great for that 6:30am tee time when it's just too early for me to light a Don Carlos. I must say I've never smoked a Candella that had "a lot" of flavor or complexity.

Have smoked claros and keep some assorted brands in the cooler. This wrapper certainly has a distinctive taste that seems to transcend brand. Having said that, all brands are not created equal (IMO). Ults, Hoyo de Monterrey, Punch (if you can ever find them) and Fuentes (actually like the cheaper curleyheads better than 858s) are very good. Just a slight notch above these are the La Gloria Cubanas. Unfortuneately, these are available from only one source.

Smoked my first candela when my Uncle gave one to me at Christmas (along with a bunch of others). It was a Don Thomas and I smoked it on his deck under a heater that afternoon. It was a nice experience..but a very mild smoke, almost like smoking air with a hint of flavor. Not an every day smoke for me, but still something different to try.

Smoked 1 candela in my life. Dont even know what it was because the person took the band off before I saw it.

I recently got a bundle of CI Candelas and they were kinda dark colored. Whats up with that??

Back when, the terms were claro (light green), which was also called AMS (American Market Selection), and double claro (dark green) which was also called candela. My guess is that with the waning popularity of this wrapper, word usage changed whereby anything green (all shades) was called candela. I am certainly open to correction if anyone knows the real story.

... maybe I ought to break down and get me a box of those Resagos No. 45 Candela Rejects CA has for 38ยข apiece ($19.99 for a box of 50) ...

... why ... they're domestics and machine made right there in the Pensylvania Dutch Country with short fillers!

... got to be good ... ;^)
