Was getting low on my Don Douglas Tambor Robustos (IMO a good inexpensive daily smoke). When I typed Don Douglas in the search window, Bucanero Classic Maduro Robusto also showed up, but not unexpectedly, since Don Douglas was the original builder of the Bucanero line when in Costa Rica. I was surprised not to see the other Bucanero listing offered at this time, the Full Sail. Can someone enlighten me as to why the Classic Maduros are associate with Don Douglas but not the Full Sail (or the Peg Legs, for that matter, that just closed out a bid)?

After the move to Nicaragua, they developed stronger blends due to the stronger tobacco. While they still maintain the "recipies" of Don Carlos...his hand is no longer stirring the pot. IMO, Bucanero is doing a stand up job of "leaving the nest" and making what the world needs! A strong,well-constructed,full-bodied cigar that leaves you craving more.

Is Don Douglas retired? I bought a box of Cao's maduro torpedos. I purchased them when they first came out was told they were made by him. These cigars are unbelievable, can't compare with the ones made now. Also remeber trying bahia's when they first came 5 or 6 years ago. These were the best cigars I ever smoked including cubans. The bahia's now really blow. Recently I purchased buc's torpedo maduro hoping to recapture some that douglas magic. However according to your post, I guess he no longer has anything to do with bucs.I Haven't tried the buc yet. Does anyone know of any premiums cigars he made before he retired that I can purchase.

Douglas has retired but still "consults" with Bucanero.(as i was told by their owners). As for the Classic Belli in Maduro, great smoke. I think that this is the Best in the Classic line.

Coach,
I just won a bundle of Don Douglas Tambor Belicoso Maduro (25)for $16. How do these taste / compare to the Don Douglas inspired Bucanero line and do these need some aging prior to smoking?

i have tried the Tambors and liked them. they do not compare to the Bucs though. to me the Tambors were more like the XXO short belis made by Borihani. they should be good to go but will have some bite.

IMO the Don Douglas Tambor Bundle Robustos are a good yard smoke, an inexpensive daily. A little age is always good. I've tried the Churchills and the Belicosos and I still prefer the Robustos. Still a good deal.
