For the real sticklers in the crowd, when making larger solutions please keep in mind that propylene glycol is slightly heavier than water.

Propylene Glycol is 8.61 pounds per gallon while water is 8.34 pounds per gallon. Therefore mixing 1 gallon of Propylene Glycol with 1 Gallon of water will give a 51% solution of propylene glycol.

PG/distilled water 50-50 mix keeps the atmosphere in the humi near 70% RH. Releases water at less than 70%, sucks it up at more than 70%. PG also has a quality of fighting mold.

Cool that means I don't have to be checking all my humidors every few hour to keep in the 70% range,WOW I could handle that THANKS for the info..

Is 50/50 mix by volume or weight? X

I don't think the volume thing carries any weight :-) the louder my wife yells about my cigar capacity, the more I seem to buy. So it doesn't apparently have any correlation.

I thought that the description of 50/50 for mixing PG and water was a volume/volume description, not a mass/mass description. So one gal of 50/50 has equal parts (volume wise) of water and PG. The volume of PG would weigh more than the equal volume of water, but there would be a half gallon of each. I think that is how it goes anyway.

If you read my post above ... it explains it.

It by weight ... NOT volume!

tsk tsk tsk. cbid sells pg 50/50, and you mention another website that competes. why that's almost as bad as my indonesia site.

xibbumbero and calavera

you are both correct.

but, let's face reality, it doesn't matter that much. the humidity in the cigar does not have any effect on the cigars essence. it just changes how fast the cigar will burn, or if it is to wet, it won't.

people have been smoking cigars since adam and eve had their first fight about the danger of second hand smoke.

chalk humidifiers started in about the 20' or 30's with the slogan, "now you can buy them by the box"

i wasen't smoking cigars then, but i doubt that cigar stores had much in the way of humidifiers. if anyone remembers something different, i stand corrected.

RICKAMAVEN --- CI/CB does NOT sell pure Polypropylene glycol ... and most definately not in thhe quantities that were asked about ...

... therefore, you stand corrected ... ;^)

Besides ... if you do an archive search, there are over 180 threads on this subject, and I only copied and pasted the response to one of those threads that was already here ...

And, you say, "but, let's face reality, it doesn't matter that much. The humidity in the cigar does not have any effect on the cigars essence. It just changes how fast the cigar will burn, or if it is to wet, it won't."

That my friend, couldn't be farther from the truth ...the environment in which they are stored is crucial. Without the proper humidity, the aging process begins to be stunted.

And you also state that the humidity in the cigar does not have any effect on the cigars essence? Tell me the the 'essence' of the cigar will be the same if you smoke that dried out, hot buring, cracked wrappered cigar as compared to one properly humidified ...

Essence means , 'fundamental nature or QUALITY' ... and I don't think there is much quality to an old dried out cigar.

... even if that was the way that they were smoked in the 'old days', when folks we ignorant of many things, doesn't mean it was the correct way of doing it.

We've come a long way, baby ... now that we have learned how to make our lives richer ...

Heck ... in the old days, folks didn't have refrigeration, and cured their meat in salt. Does that mean we shouldn't refrigerate our food too???

... but, I digress.

i smoke bad frogs, red heads, alhambra's, poderozas, and from my local shop, i smoke don,the bone breaker's house brand, whose motto is "if you don't smoke my cigars, i break your bones." this allows me the luxury of knowing nothing about cigars, but be able to smoke all day.

current purchases:

Bootlegger's Sweet Amaretto Set of 15 3 of 3 at $5.00
Don Guillermo Don Guillermo (25) 1 of 3 at $10.00
Dutch Masters Panatela (50) 2 of 2 at $5.00
Bad Frog Torpedo - Set of 15 7 of 7 at $1.00

i don't know how many more frogs i have to kiss looking for the princess.

"essence" - The intrinsic or indispensable properties that serve to characterize or identify something.

sometimes it's just the band.

when you are old and wrinkled, wear glasses and walk with a cane, won't you still be slimboli?

'essence' of the cigar will be the same if you smoke that dried out, hot burning, cracked wrappered cigar as compared to one properly humidified ...

i like "CRACKED WRAPPERED". it is stored in my memory for the future.

Rick, when Britney Spears is 70, she may be old, dried out, and cracking, but if you had the choice, and could control the outcum, wouldn't you rather have her NOW!?

nor adapati's from indonesia. nor some of the "pure" cigars on other websites.

ah, the subtle ways we excuse ourselves from our own follies.

Rick --- I am not going to get in a debate with you in the difference in posting a cigar site and a chemical store that sells pure Polypropolyne glycol ... and the fact that I already explained that this site has been posted here at least a half dozen times over the last year or so ...

... and thanks for pointing out that mistake in my grammer. I stand corrected, and I will try to be more careful with my typing in future posts ... ;^)
