I know what you're thinking - how can we get together and bomb eleltea? But stop and think about it. Do you really, really think in your heart of hearts that I deserve it? Oh sure, I'm a regular poster and make keen observations about cigars and accessories from time to time that enrich all your lives, but there are others almost as deserving as I. None come to mind...
But, seriously, folks. Last night I had a La Gloria Cubana Wavell maduro that had been sitting in my humi for a while. I don't think it was just the firey Korean octopus dinner that did it for me, although the little tentacles sure were tasty with the kimchee, seaweed soup, sweet and crunchy anchovies, and all the other odd little dishes that I am nuts about. Perhaps it was the balmy night air, or the rather nice Texas port wine, or the fact that I had the TV clicker all to myself while Donna was up in Cincinnati visiting her sister and beautiful nieces.
It has been a nice few weeks for cigars. Recently I have test-driven Flor de Dominicana Ligero, Ashton VSG, FOX Power Ranger, JdN Antano Beli, Torano Exodus 1959 and a few other pretty good stogies, and they were all great. Tonight I had an Excalibur III maduro that was smooth and silky and just kept getting better, especially the last third.
But of all of them, that LGC was just damn near a perfect cigar last night. I have always thought highly of them. One of the first boxes I ever bought were Wavells, and there was not a disappointment in the box. But it had been a while since I had one. Perfect prelight draw. Perfect burn. Wonderful aroma. Just enough kick to hold my interest. Never got bitter or ugly. Billowing clouds of smoke. We are all different, and maybe you'll know what I mean when I say my taste seems to constantly evolve, but if you haven't revisited the LGC Wavell in maduro for a while, allow me to recommend you buy a box. That way, if you hate them, and I hope you will, you will know how to handle your end of the bomb. ;o)
