Was it the 8-5-8 flor fina sun grown that was posted about a little while ago?? Is it cedar wrapped with a black band at the foot? I think they're pretty scarce.

I got one in my humi... I know Slim raves about them.

Lowman, yes. The cedar wrap with the black toe wrap is a sungroan! I love them! They're even better (Duh!) with a year or so under their belt (got a box sleeping in the ploomidoor)

Love these! Glad you enjoyed that JC.
I'm wondering now if these are the same wrappers used on the VSG. These babies are really dark! Will be looking high and low for more of these!

Smoked my first 8-5-8 SG last night... WOW !! You guys are right. This is a really good 'gar... Smooth taste, never harsh. Burn was even and held a nice solid white ash. Stayed cool down to the nub!! Needed a clip for this one but didn't have one... blisters on fingers... ouch!!
Got 2 more resting in my humi... mmm,mmm good...

Yes, these are amazing. One of the best box splits I've decided to do (whassup, Jerry!). The pre-light aroma of these cigars is amazing. I could just smell it unlit and be very, very happy.

Smokes like a charm as well. Well worth the cash.

Absolutely one of the best I've smoked as well. Sad that that 858 sungrown may be history without a batch set aside for 2003. So it goes.

Low, I split the box with jdr through "that other auction site." We paid retail (~$7/stick) but we got our sticks and I will never look back and say we shouldn't have--simply the best cigar purchase I've made in many years and to know they may never be made again makes these remaining few all that much mo betta!

Hey JD,

I found a place advertising that they have AF 8-5-8 SG for $91.50 + $5 del. I was gonna jump all over that... but of course when I sent an e-mail to check stock... they were out !! :o( What a suprise. He said they won't be getting any more in this year...

jgjam --- which SG's are you referring to ... the Flor Fina 858's?

Today I opened my last box of those treasures ... as much as I hated to do it. It was the one that had the Fuente humipak in it, and I've heard that not many were packaged that way.

I opened them because I was worried about them ... and I couldn't believe how incredibly fresh they were, for being in a zip-lock freezer bag sitting on my shelf for a couple of months! The humipak looked and felt like it was put in there the day before ...

The bad thing ... is not that they are loose in my humidor, I know I won't be able to keep my hands of them!

Slim... yes they are the FF 858s SG with the cedar sleeve and black band. The 6 I purchased were in the standard 858 box but did not have the humipak sticker. Don't know if they are the original box or just an older box that they refilled on the shelf. Send me an email and I will get you the rest of the info.

... email sent.

The 'water drop sticker' is on the shrink wrap on the outside, and is thrown away when opened. Once opened, they probably just digard the humipak also ...

... it's hard to tell, unless you see them open a new box.

What a rare find!

Is there any difference in the cigars in a humi pack box or no humi pack box? X

Absolutely!

Like I said above, they were incredibly fresh ... even though I only had them in a zip-lock freezer bag. They were in that bag for a couple of months!

If I had known how well the humipak worked, I would not have opened the sealed box.

The humidipaks and humidipak chubs all work the same and they work extremely well. I have the pouches in several sizes all the way up to a box size. I keep my overflow in these pouches. I also use them to hold my cigars inside my Otterbox. Much better humi control in the Otterbox than PG/H20. Fuente is the only one that I know uses them in their boxed, shipped smokes.

cwil, email sent.

Low,
I've found several sites with pricing ranging from ~$90s to ~$130s, but they aren't in stock and they either stopped adding people to the waiting list or ditched the waiting list altogether after finding out the Fuentes will not be making these anymore.

What I meant by difference was,in the cigars themselves. It would appear that other than how the cigars remained fresh, these are the same cigars. X

Oh .. I see what you mean now.

Yes ... they are the same 2002 release, just some got the 'humipak' in the box and others didn't.

They ran out of them at the time they went into production, and the new order didn't arive in time to make the rest of the boxes.

I thought that he 2000 release was the best, the 2001 release was very good, but just didn't have that same kick that the 2000 relase had ... and then the 2002 release came out and was better than BOTH the previous releases!

Everyone you talk to that's really into the 858SG's, will have a different variation on that ... LOL!!!

I've not had anything but the 2002 release so I can't compare, but I can tell you I've not had any better sungrown period. I'm a staunch VSG supporter but these 858SG are several notches above.

Why do you think that these were rolled exclusively for Arturo Fuente, and was his personal favorite and very private cigar ... and were never released to the public before his death?

Even then ... I heard that it was a very difficult decision for Carlos Sr. and Carlos Jr. (Carlito) to share that special cigar with those who love their product, and was even harder to produce enough of that very special blend to share with the world.

Not too bad, cwilhelmi and jd1 ...

... I've seen them sell for up to $250+ a box, and never below $150+ at places like that ...

I wish you both good fortune ... and a 'pox' on all would be 'snipers' out there!

Yes Cwil, I'm trying to constrain myself from doing the pee pee dance, but I might just bust a move any second now. Damn that 11 hours is going by too slow...he put another one out there as a carrot! DAMN!
If we get this one, I'll have almost a full box. To think I had access to almost 10 boxes of these at one time or another and at the suggested retail...

I just found a box of 858 SGs at a local shop, the kid behind the counter gave me 10% off for buying the whole box. So I payed the same price as the split jd1 and I did, but at retail in Cali!! Woo hoo!! If his manager finds out what he did his a$$ is gra$$...

Just had my first 858 SG this morning. Excellent. Slightly sweet and spicy at the same time. I think I am turning into a Fuente lover. Is the 858 maddy any good?

What about 858 SG simgles? first of all, i have a hard time finding a lot of smokes in Hawaii, second, when i do find them they are asking for my left arm and a few toes for them, i have seen the 858 SG's for $15/ea. can anyone tell me how much singles go for in the real world?
