Oshkosh humidifier

I recieved my Oshkosh humidifier today. Till now, I had been using Diamond Crown and Paradigm humidifiers. The small Diamond Crown in my aging box simply could not meet the demand on it. I bought the Oshkosh for it's capacity. For some reason I thought it had the same wick type material as the others mentioned. This is not true. The Oshkosh uses simple oasis material. Will it work? Oh sure! But as we know the liftime of oasis is about 3 years. The stuff Diamon Crown uses looks like it will last indefinately, hence the high price. I didn't pay full retail for the Oshkosh so I am satisfied. Main point here is this: if you make your own humidifier with tupperware and oasis with PG, you are making a simple Oshkosh. If you don't like do it yourself projects the Oshkosh will work very well. One other thing: the Oshkosh takes up quite a lot of space. I would only use it in a large humidor. My 2 cents, thanks for reading!

Oasis,
The green florist foam, used for wet, fresh flower arrangements, also used in humidifiers for humidors.

Wow! I had never heard of the Lamsia Electronic Cigar Oasis System! I did a search, there it was. Looks like it would work great. But you have to run a power cable out of your humidor. It also appears you have to buy refills from them at $15 a pop! The Oshkosh retails for about half of the Cigar Oasis. It is a passive system(no electronic monitoring or control). You fill it with cheap distilled water every now and then.I've used nothing but passive stuff and my cigars are in good shape.

I've grown to like the Osh., at first I thought it was just too dam big and used up too much space in the humidor, but since then I've acquired more humidors and have grown out of looking at my cigars everyday. So now I really like it, its pretty much maintenance free and rarely requires refilling.

Well, I've got an Oshkosh in the larger of my humidors ... it works well and I like it ... I paid a bargain price for it, but, still compared to the rest of what I use, it was expensive ... I've got soap dish units w/wet florist foam in the two standard size units and tupperware dishes w/wet florist foam in the cooler units ...

BUT ... I have a plastic humidifier w/climaxx beads in a small humidor and frankly, I'm gonna replace all the florist foam with beads .. when or if the Oshkosh dies, I'll replace it with a bead unit too ... I've decided the beads are the way to go ... by far.

My 2cts worth ...

Now tell me more about the climaxx beads. This is new to me. I've been using the cheap humidifiers that came with my humidors and then the soap dish with green florist foam in my coolidor. I have to fill the foam up every week to maintain the humidity and would love to find an inexpensive method that would last longer than that.

If it is good enough to protect multi-million dollar works of art, it will protect your cigar investment better than any other humidification medium on the market today. Newly formulated to maintain a 65% environment for those cigars best stored at a lower RH. The Climmax Premier Media are sold in 1/4, 1/2, and 1 pound increments and will provide precise humidification control for approximately 5 cubic feet per pound. The media should be stored in a water-tight, open top container and placed inside your humidor. The media are manufactured to maintain 65% humidity with a variance of +/- 2% RH. All you need to add is distilled water.

I am 100% with SteveS on the Climaxx beads for any passive humidifier application or travel needs. Chemically programmed smart beads.

I do however have one of the newer Cigar Oasis Extend units in my endtable cabinet humi. It is a modifed version of the regular CO unit and uses a permanent reservoir for distilled water so you do not need to periodically buy the replacement cartridge. A bit "supercharged" for higher volume air circulation. Pretty cool unit.
