I need some input on this one, my wife is due to deliver our first child in a few weeks, and as wonderful as this event is, it leads me to a quandary…

What would be the ideal first celebratory cigar, and what is the ideal smoke to give out to friends and family. Seeing how we are on a bit of a budget, the box must be a balance of price and quality.

What would be your collective advice?

(And, no we don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl, we want it to be a surprise.)

Your input is appreciated.

Cheers,
PT

Congrats...May I suggest a box of Cupidos? Great smoke that you can pick up for about $50 a box here. I prefer the criollo line, but they are all pretty tasty. Your wife will really dig the bands (little Cupid inside a heart).

The Fuente Curly Head Deluxe is a nice budget cigar to pass around to friends. It comes in natural and maduro.

I agree Fuentes are good pass around cigars. Nice taste, not too strong, good quality. They make It's a boy! It's a girl! boxes at reasonable prices.

It's not always the cigar that makes the experience worth while, but somtimes the experience that makes the cigar worth while. Buy what you're comfortable with and enjoy, and of course, what you see fit as a special occasion smoke :)

Congratulations!

IMO, you'd have a tough time beating the price/performance of the CI Corjo ... it's a surprisingly good cigar and rather wallet-friendly

http://www.cigarsinterna...asp?k=CB-4C5050&hd=&ft=

Plus, you can always pick up a few 'good' cigars for those closest to you who will appreciate them ... Torano Exodus Silver, Perdomo "Genuine Counterfeit" Cubans or CAO Gold are examples of some good cigars that won't break your bank ... for yourself ... a CAO Millenium or an OpusX would be my suggestion

Peter,

Congrats on the baby and good luck because you are going to need it. I have a 1-year old girl and a 2.5 year old boy, so I speak from experience.

I agree with SteveS. Buy yourself and the people who appreciate it a really nice cigar and buy a box of cheapies for people who don't really smoke. They won't know the difference.

Keep us updated.

Congrats !!

For the celebratory cigar : Ya know the one... you open the humi, take it out, look at it, smell it, then put it back because you think you will never get another... THAT'S THE ONE!!!

As smithbw says... they always make more...

Low

Everyone has one of those... don't they ?? OR is it just me???

Congratulation on the future family member.

I gave out LGC maduro coronas(glorias)....found them for $53 a box. I wanted something small ring size, with flavor but still smooth. Seemed to fit the bill and they also have a nice label.

Lot's of good deals here that would work nicely.

For your celebratory cigar, do what Low says.
For distribution, SteveS has a good suggestion.

Congrats and a lot of good choices here.
I would go with the Padron 2000/3000 you can get for a really decent price here or elsewhere.
Depending on budget and how many to pass out, you could also go with a more primo stick; but why? Save that special primo (any of those listed here in this post) for yourself.

If you only have a few friends that smoke cigars, buy a few of your favorite premi's and a box of chocolate smokes for everyone else. For your own smoke, that one (or two) that you always put back sounds good to me too.

Thank you all, this is all really good stuff. I love Barry's idea of chocolate stogies for the "non-herfers", great, just great.

The box of Cupidos is also a great idea (little baby Cupids!), the wife loved it, THANKS!!!

Great, just great ideas guys. THANKS a ton.

If you're going with the Cupidos, let me suggest the Campana ... best of that line, IMO ...

Hey Folks,

For those who helped me out here...

My wife and I had a healthy, but 5 weeks early, BABY GIRL... 6lbs,3ozs...

Mom and baby are doing just fine... and the Cupidos were a hit! So was my quiet moment with a OpusX sent by a friend overseas ;-)

Wow, what a wild ride... Now the fun begins huh...

THANKS!

Pete -
Congrats! My wife and I had our first (also a girl) 8 weeks ago today. Having just gone through it, I agree with Steve...in this case, it's not the cigar, it's the experience. I did what SteveS suggested...a few good ones for my true cigar smoking friends (Cohiba Siglo III ISOM for the closest) and some cheap cigars for acquaintances and those that don't really smoke but say they do!

Congrats again, I hope you got a good one! I'm sure you've heard the horror stories from everyone with kids. Gloom, doom, and more gloom. A lot of folks were telling me how my life was over, the kid crys all the time, etc... My boy who'll be 9 weeks Tuesday is "perfect" in every way. Best wishes to you and yours.

Congratulations.

On my kid's birth, I went out to Walgreens and bought a box of "It's a Girl" cigars to hand out to all my non smoking buddies, and others. Those are the ones I know will be stuck in a desk or dresser drawer for a few months and tossed of smoked in a whim and tossed.

My smoking friends, I went out and found the best box of "It's a girl" cigars I could muster up on the internet. (Cigar shops were useless for this venture). I think I ended up with the Cusano's.

For my closest friends, the ones I will light up with right there. I opened up my humidor and let them have their pick. (Being that I wasn't extremely into cigars then, it was a pretty dismal selection of Macanudos, Partagas and Romeo and Julietas).

That way you feel good. No one was left out and everyone got to share in my joy.
Chocolate cigars for the non smoking ladies went over really well.
